Ramblings:

  • Thank you: To everyone who took my annual blog reader survey last week! Every year I really enjoy reading the responses and get so much great feedback from them, but this year's responses were especially detailed. I look forward to sharing the results of this year's survey soon, in the meantime here's the results of last year's
  • Real ID delay: A very random rambling from a news story I talked about at work, but I figured this is good to know if you haven't heard. Surprise, surprise... the national deadline for needing a REAL ID to fly has been extended yet again! I feel like it's been years now that we've been hearing you'll need a REAL ID to be able to fly domestically, and yet it keeps getting extended. The delay this time is for COVID-19. Now the government is saying you won't need one until 2023! Definitely good news for anyone who isn't a fan of the DMV.

Weekend recaps:

  • Last weekend: My mom was visiting! This was her first visit to Virginia in two years (thanks to COVID-19), and it was great to have her back! We spent most of the time doing day trips to local spots, including several I hadn't been to before like Luray Caverns in Luray, The Market at Grelen (a garden store and cafe) in Orange, and Michie Tavern (historic restaurant) in Charlottesville. I also took my mom to a few places in Charlottesville that I have been to before like Carter Mountain Orchard and Ivy Creek Natural Area. It was a busy weekend but it's nice to have those again after spending most weekends for the last year at home!
  • This weekend: Planning a day trip to NoVa on Saturday (Northern Virginia) to see a friend of mine who lives there. I'm probably going to wake up really early to head up there so we can make the most of the day. No plans yet for Sunday but the weather looks great so maybe playing tennis that afternoon.

Purchases:

  • I am going to a bachelorette party in May, and the bride wants the guests to wear a blush pink outfit. Get this- as much as I love the color hot pink, I realized after going through my closet that I didn't currently own a single blush pink item- ha! I lucked out and found a really cute blush pink dress on sale in-store! The one I got isn't online, but this one is similar and from the same brand.

Wishlist:

  • A darling going-out dress for spring that's under $40 (yay for normal life resuming and being able to get fun clothes like this again!).
  • I've been wearing one of my favorite skorts often for tennis, and I love it so much that I want another one!
  • A cute and feminine little summer pajama set
  • I don't typically associate black as being a summer color, but this black embroidered dress is gorgeous and affordable!
  • I've seen a few bloggers style these braided nude heels and I'd love to try out this trend for myself.

Currently reading: Fail Until You Don't: Fight. Grind. Repeat. by Bobby Bones - When I read a book that I really like by an author, I often like to jump into something else by them soon after. I recently read Bobby's first book (an inspirational memoir), and I immediately requested this one from the library after finishing the first. So far I really like this book too! Bobby explains his thought processes and tools for staying motivated with all types of goals- everything from professional to personal.

Recipe of the week: Chicken Pot Pie from The Pioneer Woman - I've shared this recipe several times before on the blog, but it is still so good! I made it for dinner for my mom and a friend a couple nights ago. The key is to also make homemade crust!

Song of the week: The Business by Tiesto - I love the fact that dance music is making a comeback to Top 40 radio here in the US! Hoping we will hear more songs like this over the summer.

Favorite blog posts of the week:

  • Heather Bien - Heather wrote a phenomenal and detailed blog post about all of the expenses you might not think of that go into running a blog. I'm going to save this post to send to people who sometimes ask me blogging FAQs for starting their own websites!
  • Southern Curls and Pearls - Caitlin shared a heartfelt and honest post about her first three months as a new mom that I loved reading.
  • Oh What a Sight to See - I love all of Hannah's workwear round-ups, but this past week's had some especially chic outfits!

On the blog this week:

     God Bless,

     xoxo Annaliese

  3. That's so awesome that your mom got to visit you. After a year of not being able to see anyone, I am sure it was just what you both needed. I am glad to hear that I don't need a Real ID any time soon. I actually was scheduled last year but since I couldn't get my act together, I just renewed my license. Looks like there isn't a rush. I read Caitlin's post. It's very honest and raw. I hope you are having a great week so far and happy Wednesday!
