Midweek Ramblings.

Ramblings:
  • The demise of the landline: This article from The Atlantic was such a good and thought provoking read this week! My mom still has the landline number that my family has always had, and she still uses it daily (despite the fact it's 2020, the cell service at my childhood home still is terrible). But reading this made me realize how rare this is now! And also left me a little nostalgic for the days of chatting with friends for hours on a landline phone.
  • First time giving blood: I donated blood for the first time in my life on Monday! I have always admired those who give, but was too scared for years to do it myself. I've never fainted or passed out before, but for some reason I convinced myself a long time ago that if I ever did try giving blood, this would happen to me. My company sponsored a blood drive on Monday of this week so it seemed like a great time to face my fear! Everything went just fine- no passing out! The needle did hurt a little more than I expected it to, but within a couple hours my arm felt totally fine. It's amazing to know that this simple donation could save many lives! If you've also been scared of giving blood, I recommend starting to consider it- I'm glad I did!
  • New Netflix show: My roommate and I had been watching the second season of You together since the holidays, but we had to put a pause on finishing it for a few weeks as she's in a really tough section of her grad school program (and I don't want to watch without her!). So I needed a new show to enjoy in the meantime. I decided to try watching Cheer and I'm so glad I did! This is a documentary series that follows a college cheerleading team at a small Texas college that is trying to win their 14th national cheerleading championship. I didn't know much about cheerleading before watching this, but I'm hooked now! The stories of the athletes in this are super inspiring- some come from really tough backgrounds. I'm currently halfway done Cheer- although I saw some tweets yesterday from Reese Witherspoon about the show that spoiled part of the ending for me- whoops!

Weekend recaps:
  • Last weekend: Super busy and fun! It was originally supposed to snow, but the weather changed and it was just rainy on Saturday, so my friend Perrin was still able to drive up from Charlotte to visit! We had a great time together. Over the course of the weekend we visited a winery, cidery and brewery, and she also came with me and other friends to my roommate's grad school semi-formal downtown! On Sunday after church I got to emcee a wedding show for work, and then Sunday evening some friends came over and we made our travel arrangements for an upcoming NYC girls trip!
  • This weekend: Friday night I'm headed downtown to enjoy Restaurant Week at a new-to-me restaurant with friends. Saturday morning I have a hair appointment, and Sunday after church I'm doing something fun and fitness related that I can't wait to share!

Purchases: No fun purchases this week- I typically don't shop much in January after the Lilly Pulitzer sale!

Wishlist:

Currently reading: After doing so much reading in 2019, it hasn't been as much a priority for me this month. Slowly but surely still reading  Never Go Back by Dr. Henry Cloud and Spoken From the Heart by Laura Bush - hoping to finish them both before next week!

Recipe of the week: Chrissy's Mac n Cheese from Cravings by Chrissy Teigen - I've talked about this recipe from time to time on the blog for the past few years- I stand by the fact this is the BEST mac n cheese recipe on earth! Tonight is my week to host dinner club, and I'm excited to make this for my friends for the first time.

Song of the week: Vina by Mira - Back on a big Romanian pop music kick this week! I like a lot of Mira's songs, and just discovered this older one that I've been jamming to in the mornings while getting ready for work.

Favorite blog posts of the week:
  • Emma's Edition - Emma always offers such useful tips for fellow bloggers, and I really enjoyed this post where she shared some email negotiating tips for campaigns.
  • Alyson Haley - Haley goes to so many cool destinations and her blog has become a fantastic travel resource! She shared three of her very favorite destinations in this informative post.
  • Palmettos and Pineapples - Liz shared a fun Trader Joe's haul! Some of the items she featured are favorites of mine, and some I hadn't heard of and now want to try.

On the blog this week:

     God Bless,
