- Election Day: Did you vote yesterday? I don't really talk about it on my blog, but over the past few years I've been very interested in national politics, and I enjoy staying informed on those issues. I will be the first to admit though that I don't have the same enthusiasm for local politics, which is something I'm hoping to change over the next year. I think it's been tough because I've lived in a few different states in the last few years, so just when I feel settled enough to start learning about local government in my new home, I would move somewhere else. I vowed after voting in 2018 that I would educate myself more about how Charlottesville local government worked... but I failed at that. I still voted yesterday, but I felt very rushed to learn about the local candidates and issues. I'm holding myself to making it a priority to educate myself more about local politics before the 2020 election!
- Funniest video of 2019: I'm always down for a good funny video, but this one about how guys act in nightclubs that my friend Ciera shared with me earlier this week is hands down the funniest thing I've seen in 2019- no joke! I was screaming and crying laughing while watching. If you need a laugh today, watch it and I promise you will not be disappointed!
Weekend recaps:
- Last weekend: I went to North Carolina to visit my friend Liane! She lives about 45 minutes outside of Charlotte, and it was kind of fun to explore new-to-me areas of North Carolina. On Saturday we had a great time hiking at Hanging Rock State Park, and then stopped at Childress Vineyards in Lexington on the way back. I especially loved Childress- it's a stunning vineyard and their wines are incredible as well.
- This weekend: I am planning a fun girls' night out for my friends in Richmond! We are going to a seasonal exhibit that I can't wait to check out, and then out in the city for a little bit after. For Saturday and Sunday, I'm actually hoping to start Christmas shopping this weekend. I prefer to get as much of my shopping done in November as possible, so I want to start on that. Also on the agenda is putting some final touches on organizing my new bedroom- it's been a slow process since moving.
Purchases: I don't typically buy much clothing or beauty items for myself in early November since I wait for holiday sales to begin, but here are some random things I got this week and last:
- This neck pillow for upcoming travel- under $15!
- This European adapter plug to take with me to Spain (or for future trips).
- I loved reading a blog post from Katey of Chronicles of Frivolity a few months ago about Hollis makeup bags- so I finally purchased a set to treat myself.
- I purchased this Beautycounter holiday set to try a few more of their products.
Wishlist:
- I adore the bright pink hues in this top!
- I already own a couple pairs of heeled OTK boots, but I think it might be good to invest in another pair with a flat heel like these.
- I saw this cute Christmas tree ornament at a winery gift shop over the weekend- I think this would make an adorable gift for wine lovers at Christmas!
- Velvet mules that would be great for the holidays- they also come in a few colors.
- Not a bad price for such a practical pair of heels.
Currently reading: Veil of Roses by Laura Fitzgerald. This book is about a Middle Eastern immigrant who escapes her home country with a one way ticket to the US. It's super captivating so far!
Recipe of the week: Maple Chili Pork chops from PaleOMG. These pork chops are very easy to make and so tender and delicious. A great choice if you're having someone over for dinner. They're also a paleo recipe!
Song of the week: Memories by Maroon 5. I'm so hit or miss on Maroon 5's newer music, but this song has really grown on me. Whenever I hear it, it brings back college memories!
Favorite blog posts of the week:
- Roselyn Weaver - Roselyn and her husband recently adopted their son Landon, and this beautiful blog post documented adoption day! I seriously had happy tears for them while reading it.
- Turtle Creek Lane - Jennifer's home always looks so festive and incredible for all the holidays! I loved seeing her Halloween home tour.
- Lonestar Southern - I loved this honest and heartfelt post from Kate about prioritizing and learning to love reading the bible!
On the blog this week:
God Bless,
xoxo Annaliese
