Midweek Ramblings.

Ramblings:
  • The pandemic on primetime: How is the TV world navigating the pandemic? It's a mix between various shows and networks, but some TV shows have dived full force into portraying our new normal in their current seasons. This New York Times article highlights which shows have done that and how, and it also features my favorite show that's currently on TV- Superstore!
  • Britney Spears documentary: Who else watched the new documentary about Britney Spears and the #FreeBritney movement over the weekend? WOW is all I'm going to say. As a big Britney fan, I was aware of the Free Britney movement and part of the story with her conservatorship for awhile now, but the documentary definitely goes more in-depth with it all, and also connects things from her past and early years of her career to what's going on now. I thought it was very well done and highly recommend watching! (It's on Hulu.) I think my favorite part was all of the interviews with Britney's former assistant, who got very honest and candid.
  • Going to the movies: Friday was so much fun- I want to go into a bit more detail about something I did so I'm sharing it up here instead of in the Weekend Recaps below. There is a historic performance art theater called The Paramount that is located in Downtown Charlottesville. Obviously they haven't been able to hold normal events since the start of the Pandemic, but for the past several months they've pivoted and have begun showing socially distanced movies on their own big screen. The Paramount seats over 1,000 people, and they cap attendance for each movie at less than 10%, with masks required. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable in a traditionally sized movie theater right now, but the Paramount is large enough that I have been wanting to give it a try. When I saw they were playing one of my all-time favorite movies, Crazy Rich Asians, this past Friday, I knew it was time to go! I went to the 3pm matinee, and it was so much fun! There were only six people total, and everyone was masked and at least 20-30 feet apart, if not more. I felt so safe. Going to the movies alone is one of my favorite self-care activities (I just really like going by myself! Haha), so this was truly a treat. The Paramount is showing all kinds of movies from classic black and white films to newer ones. I already can't wait to go back and see something else soon! If you're in Charlottesville, I highly recommend checking this out.

Weekend recaps:
  • Last weekend: Friday after work I grabbed a hot chocolate from a local cafe and enjoyed a walk downtown, before catching a movie at The Paramount (which I wrote about in detail above in the Ramblings section!). It was such a great Friday. Saturday I went to an outdoor Jazzercise class in the morning, and then reorganized and cleaned my pantry in the afternoon. Sunday I stayed home all day and spent most of the day watching Netflix and the Britney Spears documentary on Hulu, and then during the Super Bowl I did meal prep for the week!
  • This weekend: No big plans yet- that seems to be a theme for most weekends of 2021. 😂 I am hoping to make a trip to Richmond on Friday or Sunday for something for the blog, but the weather looks a little questionable as of now, so that's TBD. Snow or not, it is supposed to be very cold in Virginia this weekend so I foresee a lot of Netflix and reading.

Purchases: No fun purchases this week! I've had some extra expenses this month (renewing my AAA membership, my grandma's birthday gift, etc) so for this week at least I tried to restrain on personal shopping.

Wishlist:
  • The cutest casual new Lilly dress for spring!
  • Fun headbands like these have been such a creative way to dress up my winter outfits this month.
  • It is way too soon to be thinking about swimwear for summer (especially not knowing if my apartment pool will be closed AGAIN)... but here I am thinking about it. Love this one-piece!
  • A neutral leopard print sweater? Yes please!
  • I never hopped super on-board with the quarantine tie-dye trend in the spring, but I feel like I would like this tie-dye shirt for lounging at home or (very) casual Fridays at work.
  • I love the color combo red and pink... how perfect is this dress for February?! Wish I had a reason to wear it haha!
  • Some darling bag options for Valentine's and early spring.

Currently reading: All the Missing Girls by Megan Miranda - Still working my way through this thriller as I didn't have a ton of reading time last week! It's about a woman who returns to her small hometown where her high school best friend was kidnapped and disappeared 10 years prior... and now there has been another disappearance of another young woman.

Recipe of the week: Chocolate Stamp Cookies - I shared this cookie recipe here on my own blog on Friday- so naturally I have to plug this post as my recipe of the week!

Song of the week:  Lasting Lover by Sigala and James Arthur - This new song took a few weeks to grow on me, but now I always turn it up and sing with it in the car when it's on the radio!

Favorite blog posts of the week:
  • Basic Britt  - Loved this post from Brittany about the benefits to thrifting. I do enjoy shopping secondhand from time to time- it's definitely something I should be doing more often and hope to be soon!
  • Seersucker Sass - My friend Dana is embarking on the journey of buying her first home! I am still a few years away (if not more, lol!) from doing this, but I loved reading her perspective on how househunting has been so far.
  • A Touch of Teal - I have always enjoyed Katie's Life Lately update posts, but I think I've enjoyed them even more since COVID began. I love how candid she is about the highs and lows of this weird time.

On the blog this week:
