3 Current Fashion Trends I Just Don't Get (+ One I Do Like!)

Fashion trends come and go, and I do my best to keep up with them. I think my personal style is like 50% classic (preppy, timeless and feminine), and 50% trendy. While there are usually some trends each year that I love, I've found that in recent years there's more and more that I'm not into. (Maybe that means I'm getting old?! 😉Haha.) Let's start off this week on the blog by chatting about the three current trends that I personally *don't get*. And I'll also share one that I've been surprisingly loving! That one is is something I'm wearing in these photos- can you guess it?

3 Current Fashion Trends I Just Don't Get:
  1. Combat boots - I have seen these popping up everywhere in the past six or so months. A lot of my favorite bloggers on Instagram are wearing them with everything from distressed denim to flowing sundresses. And I am just not a fan! They're just so harsh and masculine and clunky. I have seen some slightly more feminine combat boot styles that are embellished with rhinestones or pearls... but that's still not my taste either. Classic riding boots > combat boots for me any day.
  2. Oversized band t-shirts/sweatshirts - If there's a band or music artist that you love, I say go for it with wearing their merchandise! Why not right? But I feel like a lot of the trendy oversized band shirts and sweatshirts are being worn by people that aren't fans. I don't personally listen to 70s and 80s rock bands so you won't catch me in a Kiss or Def Leppard shirt, or the other trendy bands from this era. Again- if you like these bands then you go with rocking their merch! Maybe these bands all suddenly got an influx of new 20 and 30 something female fans. 😉But I just don't understand wearing something for a band you don't listen to.
  3. Carhartt beanies (or Carhartt anything) - This is probably the trend I'm most confused by! When I think of Carhartt, I do not think fashion. There were a select group of people in my high school that exclusively wore hunting camo and Carhartt as their daily uniforms, and that was literally the polar opposite of my own style. I have been seeing Carhartt beanies popping up everywhere on Instagram lately! I have nothing against a good beanie (I'm wearing an embellished one in the photos above!)... I just don't get the Carhartt obsession. Ha!

And the one current trend I do like?! White fashion sneakers! Until about a year and a half ago, I wore sneakers only for athletic purposes. (I went through a brief Converse phase in high school, but decided that wasn't for me. 😂) In 2019, I started seeing white fashion sneakers popping up more and more on blogs I read, and finally decided that fall that I needed a pair. I now have three pairs of white fashion sneakers- my newest pair pictured above! I saw these metallic striped Adidas sneakers on The Home Edit Instagram- and immediately ordered them. I've had so much fun styling all of my white sneakers with super casual looks and some nicer looks as well- I really love wearing them with midi skirts and dresses!

Now I want to hear it- what are some trends that you just don't understand?

     God Bless,

  1. I don’t get any of those trends either! Especially the combat boots. They don’t even seem comfy to wear and that’s how I pick my clothes haha. I had to buy white tennis shoes for dance in high school. I didn’t want to wear them out because they get dirty easily. But I kept them in my closet because I didn’t want to get rid of them. And now they are in style! 😂

  2. I agree about the boots. Carhartt has a few fashionable pieces. https://themccaskeyslife.blogspot.com/?m=1

  3. Haha, I totally agree with the first one! 😂 It's not my style at all, but I have to say I don't think they look good on anyone, LOL!

  4. I love combat boots! I think it's about finding the right pair. At the same time I can agree that it is bulky and masculine. For me, I feel confused about OTK boots. I love how they look on other girls but just not on me. I also got into the white sneakers trend a year and a half ago? Maybe two now but man, I am kicking myself for not starting sooner!
