Ramblings:
- Lending a helping hand: Love this heartwarming and inspiring story so much! 95 year old former President Jimmy Carter was building houses with Habitat for Humanity in Nashville this week, despite the fact that he had stitches from a recent injury. How humbling and inspiring! Such a good reminder that there's never an excuse not to get involved by doing more good.
- The last student: This was the most interesting thing that I came across on the internet this week. It was a photojournalism series that detailed the life of the last elementary school aged pupil in a rural Russian school, and the last teacher that remained at the school. Looking at these photos was very moving, and a great reminder not to take our lives and the comforts that we're used to for granted!
- Party games: I posted about this on IG as well- but I'm currently on the hunt for great party games! Anything that can be played in a group of 20-25 people. My roommate and I are having our housewarming party this weekend and I think a fun game or two would be great to have ready to go! Feel free to comment on this post with your recommendation if you have one.
Weekend recaps:
- Last weekend: I was up in DC area visiting my friend Mercedes! She actually lives just minutes from DC in Bethesda. I have kind of fallen in love with the Bethesda area as well- it's such a nice and upscale area! While in DC, we went to see Carrie Underwood's Cry Pretty 360 tour last Friday night. Such an incredible show!! We spent most of Saturday out enjoying a pumpkin festival at an orchard in Germantown, MD- the weather finally felt fall-like so it was a great day.
- This weekend: My roommate and I are having our housewarming party! I can't wait for that. My radio co-host Marc and I also have some fun plans on Saturday in Richmond- we're going to a really cool festival! On Sunday I'm excited to finally be back at church- I've missed the past few weeks which I hate to do.
Purchases:
- For the past decade or so, the only things I've bought at Walmart are groceries or toiletry items. I had no interest in their fashion departments for a long time! Walmart clothing and shoes were considered very uncool in my high school, so maybe that stuck with me into adulthood haha. Anyways- Walmart has been doing a lot of influencer campaigns lately and they're definitely stepping up their fashion game in 2019. I saw a few other bloggers wearing these under $20 sneakers, and I finally caved and got them for myself! Not sure I'd go so far as to call them a definite dupe for the Golden Goose sneakers, but they sure could be similar.
Wishlist:
- This darling dress popped up in a targeted Facebook ad and I literally haven't been able to stop thinking about it since! Those darn ads haha.
- A basic but chic top for work that looks perfect for fall/winter, and comes in multiple colors. Plus it's under $20!
- One of my friends got these jeggings and is raving about them- I need a new pair of black jeggings and the price is definitely right on these.
- This leopard print tank would look so cute paired with with fall outfits! It's such a great price that I want to order a couple colors.
- For a long time I've really wanted a pair of solid colored hot pink workout leggings. The price is very reasonable on this pair- I might have to try them soon!
Currently reading: Necessary People by Anna Pitoniak. This book was on my to-read list for months, and it finally came in at the library. It's focused on a toxic female friendship, and one of the main characters works in TV news (similar to radio)- I love it so far.
Recipe of the week: Cheddar-beer fondue from AllRecipes. This is the easiest fondue to make and so good! My roommate requested I make some for our housewarming party this weekend and I know it'll be a huge hit.
Song of the week: End Up With You by Carrie Underwood. I hadn't heard this song before seeing her concert, but now I've been listening to it on repeat!
Favorite blog posts of the week:
- RD's Obsessions - Rach found out she had breast cancer in her late 20s, and has documented her recovery through her blog. For this post, she asked her best friend to share tips on how to support a friend that's dealing with cancer or a serious illness- such an important post!
- Mash-Elle - My favorite fashion post of the week is from Michelle! I just ordered a new pair of over-the-knee boots, so I loved all of her style inspiration for them.
- Amy Believes in Pink - Amy shared a photo tour of her parents' beach house- and oh my goodness I am so obsessed with the fun decor!
