October 2023:
Highs of the Month:
- Our trip to Charleston with Ryan's family for his cousin Rachel's wedding. We had the absolute best weather, which can truly make or break a trip! It was Ryan's first time to Charleston which was also fun. Just a few highlights: walking the Pitt. St. Bridge in Mount Pleasant, eating at Callie's Hot Little Biscuit early one morning, and a perfect beach day at Isle of Palms. This wedding was also the first we have gotten to attend together as a couple.
- Another great trip to Memphis for the St. Jude Country Cares for Kids radio seminar conference. This was my second year in a row attending. This year I got to meet a few country radio personalities from Nashville that I really admire and look up to in the industry, so that was a highlight.
- The last weekend of the month was so warm and beautiful! Like May/June weather all over again. I can't believe I was on the beach in a bathing suit when it was practically Halloween.
Lows of the Month:
- Becoming burnt out from too much travel. I was gone for four consecutive weekends in September/October. Charlottesville, Charleston, Memphis and Charlottesville again. I absolutely love to travel, but four weekends in a row gone (while staying busy with work on the weekdays in between) was truly too much. I was so burnt out, tired and stressed by my final trip of the four (Charlottesville). I don't mind the occasional back-to-back trip, but I genuinely hope to never do four weekends out of town again! You live and you learn, right?
- Leaving behind an art print that I bought in Charleston at our hotel and having to pay an exorbitant amount of money for a courier service to ship it back to us in Virginia. Totally worth it as we both love the art print, but woof!! I hope to never make that mistake again when traveling.
- My health anxiety kind of came back full force this month. The weird thing is that nothing is wrong with me right now! I haven't been sick or had any doctor's appointments or anything like that. But it's still very high from some health stuff I was dealing with earlier this year. Anxiety sucks!
October Weekend Recaps:
- 6th-8th - We were in Charleston for a long weekend with Ryan's family for his cousin's wedding. We did sightseeing all over Charleston and Mount Pleasant on Friday and Saturday, and had the wedding Saturday night. The weather was perfect, and we truly had the best time. I'm holding off in the meantime on writing an updated Charleston Travel Guide, as I'll be going back next spring for another trip.
- 13th-15th - I went back to Memphis for the second year in a row for the St. Jude Country Cares for Kids radio seminar conference. It was Thursday-Saturday this year. This time, I also got to do a little bit of Downtown Memphis sightseeing with a radio friend who lives in the area and visited Graceland on Saturday before flying back to Virginia. The conference was once again held at the famous Peabody Hotel. I got home late Saturday night, and on Sunday I threw my friend Sierra a little baby sprinkle by doing Afternoon Tea at the Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach.
- 20th-22nd - I was in Charlottesville with my friend Caroline for a travel blogging collaboration trip with the new Kimpton The Forum Hotel! I am currently working on my Hotel Guide blog post, and it should be up within the next week. I left Charlottesville pretty early on Sunday morning since I had been gone so much lately, and had a relaxing rest of the day at home in Virginia Beach.
- 27th-29th - Finally- a weekend home! I spent Saturday morning judging the costumes at the Wicked 10k race for the third year in a row with a coworker of mine. Afterwards, I met Ryan for lunch near the Oceanfront, and then we headed to the beach to enjoy the gorgeous warm weather! We got ice cream after the beach, and then had a relaxing night at home. On Sunday, we went to church and then I went to see the off-Broadway production of Aladdin that was visiting Norfolk with two Junior League friends.
October Purchases:
- I don't typically shop as much for myself in October, with Black Friday sales and the holidays quickly approaching. But I did get a couple things this month. First up: I replenished my most-used eyeshadow palette when it was marked down on Amazon in mid-October. This also makes a great gift item / stocking stuffer!
- I needed a couple new skirts for fall/winter. The first that I picked out with this plaid skirt. A bonus: it is made of super soft and comfortable material!
- I also got this wrap suede skirt which I've been loving for fall.
