Casual Holiday Outfit + Christmas Plans This Season!

Happy December! I wanted to share this casual holiday look with y'all today, and a few thoughts about this holiday season being a lot more normal than 2020. So much to be thankful for and excited about this month!

The last photo above is actually one of the photos that I used on my Christmas cards this year! In general I prefer putting together more formal looks for the holidays, but I liked how this casual look turned out more than I expected. Fun story about this faux fur vest: my mom actually got it from American Eagle Outfitters way back in like 2009! At the time I didn't think faux fur vests were very cute, so I didn't understand why she had it. By the time I was in college I had a different opinion though, and I ended up asking to take her vest to college with me! Haha. It's remained a staple in my closet ever since. Thanks Mom!

I can't believe it's already December 3rd. The first half of 2021 felt so slow to me, but by early summer things really started to speed up. Before the hustle and bustle of this season takes over, I want to take a moment to reflect and be grateful for how different this holiday season looks from last year! Thing definitely still aren't back to normal from COVID, but I'm choosing to take a glass half full approach and be thankful for the fact that things are a big step towards normal as compared to last year.

I wasn't sure what my first holiday season would look like in Hampton Roads. Would I know enough new friends by December to be invited to Christmas parties? Would my new job do any sort of holiday party? The answer to both is yes and yes! I'm so excited to have three fun holiday parties on the calendar. The first one is actually tonight, and I'm hosting it! I'm hosting a ladies-only Favorite Things Gift Swap party (inspired by Christina from Carolina Charm blog). This is my first entertaining more than just one person at a time in my new apartment! I'm hoping tonight will be lots of fun, and maybe become an annual tradition for me in Virginia Beach.

The Junior League also has an annual Christmas party, which is next week! It's for both new and active members, so I'm looking forward to seeing some friends in my new member class, and also meeting some more of the active members who have been in JL longer than I have. And the week after is my work Christmas party! That one I'm extra excited for, as it's a very nice local venue (that I haven't been to yet) and is a more formal party. My former job in Charlottesville always did a very casual Christmas party, so this will be unlike any work party that I've been to before. I still feel like the luckiest girl to have this job and work at the station that I'm at now, so getting to celebrate the holiday season with my coworkers will be great.

And lastly, I am finally headed home for Christmas this year!! I didn't go home in 2019 as my parents were supposed to visit me (sadly my mom couldn't come at the last minute due to a medical emergency), and in 2020 my roommate and I both stayed in Charlottesville for Christmas with COVID concerns. I am so looking forward to finally being home in Maine for Christmas! My hometown is so cute decorated for the holiday season- there are definitely Hallmark movie vibes.

Wishing you a great start to December and this holiday season!!

      God Bless,

       xoxo Annaliese
