- Future of JC Penney: The latest major US retailer to declare bankruptcy is one that's been in trouble long before COVID-19. I used to be a pretty big fan of JC Penney back in the day. I loved flipping through their catalogues in elementary school, I went through a phase in middle school where I found my favorite graphic-t's there, and my junior prom dress in high school was found by chance on a rack there. While I haven't shopped there a ton in adulthood, I have enjoyed their Black Friday deals the last few years. I really do hope they can make a comeback! This article explores why they have been in financial trouble for awhile.
- New streaming service: Exactly what we need, right?! 😉 Haha!! Despite the fact that I think there's more than enough content already on Netflix, Prime, Disney+ and Hulu, I am pretty excited to hear about the all the shows (both new and beloved ones) hitting NBC's streaming service, Peacock. Check all of them out here! Peacock will be included for free with Xfinity cable packages, so if you have that then you'll be good to go this summer.
Weekend recaps:
- Last weekend: I headed down to Columbia, SC on Saturday morning to spend a few days with my friend Caroline and her husband. They just moved down here from Virginia this winter! I had been to Columbia twice before briefly and liked it, but it's definitely a city that I had always wanted to explore more in depth. Overall it was a very mellow (and socially distanced) long weekend, but I really needed to get out of town for a few days. It was also fun to have a road trip to really get to know my new car!
- This weekend: Definitely laying low and sticking around Charlottesville. One of my close girlfriends is moving across town in June, so I'm hoping to be able to help her pack a bit this weekend. Other then that, maybe a socially distanced winery visit will be in order? Some of my favorite ones are re-opening their patios!
Purchases: Nothing this week! Honestly with getting used to having a car payment for the first time ever I'm not sure how much impulse buying I'll be doing in the next couple months for myself. 😅
Wishlist:
- Love everything about this classy dress. The color, the belt, the flowers... yes yes yes!
- I have had these adorable sandals bookmarked for over a year now, and I still think they are so so cute.
- This gorgeous jumpsuit would be totally work appropriate (if you have a more casual dress code like my work does) with a cute cardigan or jean jacket on top!
- This is the rainbow pastel maxi dress of every girl's dreams! It's under $50 (I think it looks a lot more then that!). You can also use code alk315 on it for 15% off.
- I sadly do not currently have any need a new desk chair, but I saw this one on Instagram and I think it is so cute. I'd love it for a future place!
Currently reading: Relentless by John Tesh - My radio station plays the John Tesh show at night, and I also grew up listening to his show on a radio station back in Maine! A few of my coworkers have read his new memoir, and recommended I read it as well. I've been wanting to read more books written by icons in the radio industry, and this seemed like a great one to start with.
Recipe of the week: I actually didn't do any cooking this past week- to save time I did frozen meals and takeout leading up to my trip, and then I've been out of town until yesterday! But here's a tasty sounding soup recipe I'm hoping to make soon.
Song of the week: Magnetic by Monsta X ft. Sebastian Yatra - This song is featured in a new Jazzercise routine that my local instructors have been teaching in our virtual classes, and I love it! It's a dance beat with latin vibes, and a little K-Pop infused as well.
Favorite blog posts of the week:
- Carolina Charm - Christina can make a basic bouquet of flowers from the grocery store look like one that cost $100+, and her method is so simple!
- Emma's Edition - Emma shared some helpful tips for professional email correspondence, something that's always good to get a refresher on. This are applicable both to bloggers and day jobs!
- Thrifty Pineapple - One blog post topic I'll never get tired of reading about is jewelry organization. I have a lot of jewelry myself, so I always like to see how others store theirs. I really enjoyed this post from Angela!
On the blog this week: I took the last week off from blog posts! I rarely do this, and it was a needed little break. 😊 Excited to get back into new content!
God Bless,
xoxo Annaliese
The dress on your wishlist is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree it's sad about JCP. Ours here in town had a makeover a few years ago but they ended up closing it just a couple year later anyway. I used love looking at their catalogs as well!

Sigh, that Loft jumpsuit is EVERYTHING. I adore all things blue and white. As always, you have great recommendations on your Wish List!

SO sad to hear about so many retail places closing lately. Congrats on your new car, so exciting. Your trip to Columbia sounded fun, I have a friend who lives there. I want to visit. So excited to see your new content. I’ve been taking a little break too, but hopefully should be back soon.
