Gossip Girl Fashion Inspiration: Blair or Serena?

I've said in a few of my posts over the past week that I am desperately seeking a new show to become addicted to on Netflix. That is because during the first part of my study abroad trip here in France, I finally finished watching Gossip Girl! I've posted a couple times before about my thoughts on the show, because I had such a love/hate relationship with it throughout the months that I watched it (Yes... months. I had the busiest past semester so that meant little time for Netflix again until Summer Break!). I participated in the fashion bloggers' National Gossip Girl Day link-up back in January, and then wrote some more on my thoughts about the show, specifically on actress Blake Lively vs. the character of Serena Van der Woodsen more recently.

I will say that my thoughts on the show completely changed somewhere in season four. That's when I really became addicted! I liked season one, was iffy on season two, didn't like season three so much that I almost quit watching the show altogether (I thought a lot of the content in season three was disturbing)... but season four is when the real excitement begins! From season four until the very final episode, I could not put Netflix down!

But what ultimately kept me watching the show even during the seasons that I didn't like as much was the incredible fashion. All of the female leads on the show have the most incredible style, as do some of the supporting characters as well. I have never seen such a well-dressed cast! It was so fun for me too to see how the fashion of each character evolved a bit as the show went on.

Many girls like to pick a character in Gossip Girl as their style icon, but after finishing the show I realized that I had a little problem! I truly believe that fashion-wise, I am 50% inspired by Blair Waldorf and 50% inspired by Serena Van der Woodsen! Both leading ladies had such amazing fashion senses, that are similar yet different. I love all of the chic and feminine cut dresses that Blair wears throughout the show, and sometimes I can be spotted with a large headband as well! But like Serena, I also love all anything sequined or statement jewelry, and I adore some of her other signature styles as well (although I have yet to try the "cleavage rhombus"... haha!) Take a look at some of my past favorite blog outfits to see my point!

This is one of my all-time favorite blog outfits, and reminds me of the start of Season 5, when Serena is out in LA!

So- do y'all think that I am a Blair or a Serena (fashion-wise)? As I said before, I honestly don't think that I can pick! I do think that I prefer Serena's outfits in the show as a whole slightly over Blair's... but Blair had some killer style as well of course!

Who else watched Gossip Girl for the fashion?! :-)

To see a whole outfit that I styled earlier this year based completely on another favorite TV show of mine, check out this post!

  2. That's definitely one of the biggest reasons I watched GG! I still haven't finished it yet...which is awful, but I'm just so busy with life and school in general, plus it's only one of the shows that I watch on there regularly!

  4. I loved this post! Gossip Girl was my favorite show as I finished high school and entered the college in NYC because of the fashion alone! I am re-watching it now and I still love the outfits! I used to be obsessed with dressing like Blair but as I've grown up my style has changed and evolved and is much more Serena

  10. I am still so in love with Gossip Girl even though I've watched it about twenty times through! I think that Eric Daman their stylist did SUCH an amazing job. The fashion definitely keeps me coming back. I agree with you, I am about fifty percent Blair and fifty percent Serena!

  13. I feel like even though I'd love to dress more Blair I end up going for Serena's style because I believe it's a little less maintenance. I definitely watched it for the fashion, I didn't like the middle seasons much...

  14. I LOVE Serena's more casual effortless style on you! I think you look great in it all though, not gonna lie.
I totally understand the Gossip Girl obsession, I just finished watching it for the third time (not sure if I'm proud of that or ashamed), but in all honesty it's much better the second time because you pick up all these subtle details and styling things that you missed in the drama the first time around.

  15. You nailed it! I binged on Gossip Girl last year (after missing out on it for my whole life) and I became obsessed. The Serena looks are on point. Though I'm definitely a Blair in most aspects of my life, I've always been much more intrigued by Serena's character and style :)

  23. Loving this post! I'm also inspired by both... I actually think it's more fun that way because you're not defining your style/locking it into one area. It's more fun to play around and channel different fashion icons :)
