Midweek Ramblings.

{So glad to be back a winery with friends this weekend... first time in many months! Follow me on Instagram @miss_alk}

Ramblings:
  • Meanwhile in Vermont: My co-host Marc does a daily segment on our radio show called What the What?! which features the weirdest news stories from around the country and world. He was on vacation last week so I handled What the What, and this was my favorite story that I did! I love the fact that it comes from Vermont, since I used to live there. I dare you to read it with a straight face!
  • The real Serenity: Who else is loving Sweet Magnolias on Netflix?! It is heartwarming yet hilarious, and I am just obsessed so far! I'm watching it with my roommate Abigail and we haven't finished it yet- no spoilers! In the meantime, I did love reading this fun article about where the show is filmed
  • Selling Sunset: Look at me with a double dose of Netflix recommendations for you this week. I just finished the second season of Selling Sunset yesterday and oh my word- this show is addictive! Crazy for me to say since I never really liked reality TV before this year- I think Love is Blind back in February converted me haha. Anyways, while I wouldn't call Selling Sunset quality television... it sure is fun to watch. I love the expensive homes, the realtors' amazing outfits and style, and I've also totally gotten sucked into the catty drama. This is a great show to watch if you need something light that's a break from the news.

Weekend recaps:
  • Last weekend: Abigail and I had our first house guest since COVID-19 began- our friend Eden came to stay for the weekend! (She's been working from home and quarantining for a couple months so we felt comfortable.) We enjoyed going to a winery with some other friends on Saturday, and then on Sunday the three of us and my friend Megan had a picnic at a local park. I feel like these are simple plans that I might've taken for granted in the past, but after being home for most of the last three months I don't take any time with friends for granted now!
  • This weekend: I'M GETTING MY HAIR DONE!!!!! First hair color appointment since January!!! That's really all you need to know for my weekend plans- ha!

Purchases:
  • I'll soon be trying out self-tanner for the first time in my life! I got a bad sunburn a couple weeks ago that's faded into a tan, so I figured the time to try was now. I'm going with this popular tanning option that I've heard many people rave about!
  • I also ordered more of one of my favorite face primers
  • More Lilly Pulitzer inspired face masks- since masks are required everywhere indoors in Virginia now I figured I can't have too many!

Wishlist:
  • The ideal striped t-shirt for July 4th that's on sale for under $10!
  • Target released a couple new gorgeous designer collaborations over the weekend. This slip dress in my favorite color combination is so chic!
  • I used to have a similar pair of shorts in these same pretty colors that I loved.
  • This new pack of ImPRESS nails with the prettiest glitter accents is calling my name.
  • An elegant and classy green ruffle dress.

Currently reading: Slightly South of Simple by Kristy Woodson Harvey - Summer is my favorite season to read chick lit it! There's just something about enjoying a nice light read outside in the sunshine. I'd heard really good things about Kristy's books- this is my first read by her.

Recipe of the week: Pasta with Sausage and Kale from The Pioneer Woman - This dinner meal was easy to make and really quite tasty. I'm a picky eater when it comes to vegetables, but I didn't mind the kale in this at all (which is a big deal for me!). I also used spicy sausage for it to add more heat!

Song of the week: Maniac by Conan Gray -  Currently making the most of my new car's Sirius XM trial, and this song has been playing a lot on the Hits1 channel! I love it- perfect summer pop jam.

Favorite blog posts of the week:
  • What Nicole Wore - Last week, I went back and re-read a lot of Nicole's past posts on race. This brand new post from her is moving and encouraging, and shares direct links to her helpful Instagram content from last week, as well as other Black content creators.
  • RD's Obsessions - Rach shared a list of 12 must-read books to read from Black authors- I'm hoping to check out some of these this summer.
  • Abroad with Ash - Ash shared an extremely educational post all about the best premium travel rewards credit cards that she uses. I am fascinated with the concept of travel hacking (I was hoping to start that this year, but I think COVID-19 will delay this), so I always enjoy blog posts like this.

On the blog this week:

     God Bless,

I wrote a post on things people can do to educate themselves during this time: https://studyinglifewithgigi.wordpress.com/2020/06/03/we-cannot-be-silent/.

  6. I just started Sweet Magnolias, it’s sooo good. It’s such a feel good show and I needed it. That’s so exciting you’re getting your hair done. I haven’t gotten mine cut since Feb. I need to go soon.
