HOTEL GUIDE: The Captain's Quarters & Granville Queen Inns in Historic Edenton, NC.

Where do Southern small-town charm, rich local history, and a luxurious inn stay come together? At The Captain's Quarters and Granville Queen Inns in beautiful Edenton, NC! I'm excited to share my review of these two sister properties (owened by The Carolina Experience) with y'all today. Plus- stay tuned to the end of the post for a discount code for your future NC travels.

The Carolina Experience is a growing collection of luxury and historic inn and short-term rental properties throughout North Carolina. They own properties throughout North Carolina's mountain and coastal regions, so there is truly something for everyone. The Carolina Experience recently purchased and renovated two gorgeous inn buildings in Edenton, the quaintest small town. Edenton is located directly on the Albemarle Sound, in North Carolina's Inner Banks region, which is in the northeast corner of the state. My aunt and uncle moved to Edenton in 2020, and I made my first visit to visit them and their new town in Spring 2021. It was love at first sight for me with the darling town of Edenton! I have made several visits back to visit them and the town over the last year and a half, and I look forward to more visits in the future. It has truly become one of my happy places. Edenton is only 90 minutes south from Virginia Beach (and most places in Hampton Roads), so it's a very easy drive. I am currently working on a full dedicated Edenton Travel Guide, which I look forward to sharing on the blog hopefully before the end of the year.

In Summer 2022, the beautifully renovated Captain's Quarters and Granville Queen Inns opened their doors to visitors. The inns are next-door to each other, and each housed in a beautiful and historic converted house building. My friend Emily and I did the Edenton Trolley Tour while we were in town, and the inn buildings were actually pointed out as a stop on the tour! We learned that the Granville Queen building used to be the home of the town doctor, many generations ago.

As a guest, you have access to the lobbies and common areas of both buildings, as well as the lovely outdoor spaces! The inn keeper Jeanne lives on-property and loves to flex her culinary abilities when making delicious breakfasts and fresh baked afternoon treats for guests. That's right- in addition to a delicious breakfast being included with your stay, Jeanne bakes some sort of delicious baked good every afternoon around check-in time that guests are welcomed to. On the day we checked in, there were pumpkin spice cupcakes. So perfect for a November weekend stay! And a lovely touch of hospitality from Jeanne. Speaking of goodies offered to guests, Jeanne also had a bottle of wine waiting for my friend Emily and I to enjoy in our room upon check-in! Every detail is thought of.

Every room and all of the outdoor spaces at The Captain's Quarters and the Granville Queen are beautifully decorated. It is clear that The Carolina Experience team put so much thought and detail into getting these inns ready for operation. The indoor decor compliments the historic and coastal nature of Edenton so well. And as far as the outdoor spaces- I could've truly spent hours relaxing on the front porch of either inn! Such an ideal spot for curling up with a good book, or socializing over drinks and light bites.

My friend Emily and I stayed in Room 7 at The Captain's Quarters. It was bright and spacious, and perfect for a girls' weekend. It featured both a queen bed and a twin daybed. I kid you not- this was the most comfortable hotel bed and pillows that I have ever had in a hotel! I'm very particular about pillows especially and always travel with one of mine from home on road trips. I didn't even end up using mine, because I liked their pillows just as much!  I've traveled a fair amount this year in particular, and I can truly tell you this bed was the most comfortable of anywhere I've stayed this year. The bathroom was spacious as well, and I appreciated the attention to detail by including things like makeup remover for guests. And finally, I loved that the room had a smart TV! Always a plus to use streaming services while traveling.

From the comfortable room to the delicious afternoon treats and breakfast to the great location within Edenton, I truly loved everything about my stay at The Captain's Quarters. It makes me want to check out more of the properties that The Carolina Experience runs all over the state! There are some other great destinations in their lodging portfolio. I'm so excited to share that That Carolina Experience is offering a special discount code for Southern Belle in Training readers. Between now and March 2023, use code MISSALK20 when booking to save 20% off of a stay at any Carolina Experience property!
