BED & BREAKFAST GUIDE: A Luxurious New River Valley Stay at The Lilly Valley Inn
Lilly Valley Inn is located in the small town of Pearisburg, VA, in the heart of Virginia's New Rivery Valley. This is a beautiful and fairly untouched part of Southwest Virginia, about an hour further west of Roanoke. (Virginia Tech University is in the New River Valley, and it's just about 25 minutes away!) Ryan and I hit some unexpected accident traffic on our drive to Pearisburg, so it took us just shy of six hours to drive there. I do know that a large portion of my blog audience lives in Charlotte, NC and Charlottesville, VA (two places I used to live). It's a just under three hours away from Charlotte, and about the same distance from Charlottesville. Such an easy weekend getaway!
Lilly Valley Inn opened in 2023, and the owners completely renovated the entire property prior to opening. It still feels brand-new inside! The common spaces of the Inn have chic neutral and modern decor, and the guest rooms are decorated with tasteful colors that coordinate well with the scenic views.
While the road that Lilly Valley Inn is located on feels very secluded, it's not a far drive from the town at all. There is a Walmart, gas station and a few fast-food restaurant options just five minutes away. I feel like the location is the best of both worlds: you feel like you're very removed from society and immersed in nature's beauty during your stay, but the convenience of having Walmart nearby is there in case you have forgotten anything during your stay.
The entire Lilly Valley Inn property has stunning views of the New River and surrounding mountains. It might be one of the most beautiful views that I've ever seen from a place of lodging! All of the guest rooms and most of the common areas have a perfect view of the river and mountain scenery. I feel like my pictures in this blog post don't even do the view full justice.
Lilly Valley Inn is an adults-only property. Guests 18+ are welcomed to stay! While singles or groups of friends are welcome to stay here, the property definitely has a romantic vibe to it, and it's ideal for couples! I was so glad that Ryan could come with me for this stay. This spring had gotten off to a stressful start for us with job hunting really ramping up for me, so it was really nice to have a weekend together in such a beautiful and relaxing place.
It is a bed and breakfast, which means that a delicious three-course breakfast is complimentary every morning with your stay! Chef Lilly will prepare a fruit course to begin, a sweet course second, and finish with a savory breakfast dish that's heavier on protein. I think my favorite breakfast item I had during our stay was the incredible almond croissants that we had for our second course on our first morning.
There is complimentary coffee and tea available in the lobby for guests to enjoy at leisure. Wine and beer
Fun fact: since Ryan and I live at the beach (and we hadn't taken a mountains trip together prior to this), this was actually our first time ever going hiking together. 😊
For other activities: there are a few wineries within a one hour radius of Lilly Valley Inn that you can venture out to, or you can spend a day exploring downtown Blacksburg's shops and restaurants (and seeing the campus of Virginia Tech!). You can also take a day trip to West Virginia, the state line isn't far away at all. Lilly Valley Inn provides guests with local maps and brochures about all sorts of activities within close driving distance.
There aren't a ton of nicer sit-down restaurants in Pearisburg, but there are many more options if you're willing to drive to one of the neighboring towns. At the recommendation of innkeeper Lilly, we had dinner our first night at Palisades, located in the nearby village of Eggleston (about a 20 minute drive). This restaurant is in a historic building and has the most unique decor inside. It kind of felt like dining in an antique store, with all sort of vintage treasures surrounding us! Palisades has a fairly diverse menu. Ryan had pizza, I had a trout dish, and we shared the focaccia for our appetizer.
But the best dinner suggestion that I have for your stay at Lilly Valley Inn? Signing up for a Rustic Roots Cooking School class with Chef Lilly! Lilly is a professionally trained chef, and she offers dinnertime small-group cooking classes a few Saturdays a month for both inn guests and the local public. She'll guide you through making a full three course meal in the Inn's beautiful kitchen space! On the evening that I took class, the menu featured a tomato tart appetizer, cod with sautéed beans for the main course, and a French inspired blueberry dessert to finish things off. Everything we made was delicious! I loved getting to learn cooking and baking tips from a professional chef. The Rustic Roots Cooking School offerings are just another fun and unique thing about staying at the Lilly Valley Inn!
I really enjoyed our weekend away in Virginia's New River Valley at Lilly Valley Inn! Chef Lilly and her staff deliver wonderful hospitality, and it's such a unique and beautiful property. Ryan and I also spent a lot of time relaxing in our room and in the outdoor common areas. I read a lot, and also brought my watercolor paint set and did some painting! The guest rooms don't have individual TVs, but there is a large TV in one of the common areas that guests can use anytime, and there is wifi at the property as well.
If your relationship or marriage needs a romantic and secluded weekend away, I definitely recommend booking a stay at the luxurious Lilly Valley Inn!
