Originally I was planning to share two 4th of July themed red, white and blue outfits on the blog before the holiday this year... this casual patriotic outfit, and today's outfit! But the quick timing of my unexpected new job and move to Virginia Beach had me get behind on blog things. Today's is dressier and I feel like it would be the perfect thing to wear to a 4th of July weekend wedding. Anyways- better late than never to share this right?! Maybe some inspiration for next year? Haha!

National Wear Your Lilly Day 2020.
Saturday was the first day of summer, and that also meant it was National Wear Your Lilly Day! COVID-19 might've cancelled a lot of things this year, but Lilly lovers coming together to wear their favorite brand wasn't one of them. 😉

A Shiny Start to 2020 + My Word of the Year!
This past December ended up being busier for me than I anticipated, so sadly I wasn't able to share my favorite glam holiday look with y'all until today- a little over a week after New Year's. Whoops! Hopefully you'll excuse my lateness on that (and the fact there are Christmas trees in the background of these photos...). Anyways I still wanted to share this cute sequin dress with y'all as it could still be appropriate for other types of glamorous winter events besides just NYE. I'm also sharing my 2020 word of the year today!

What to Wear to a Daytime Wedding.
Most of the weddings that I've attended so far have all been late afternoon or evening weddings. I feel like there is a different type of dress code standard for morning or early afternoon weddings! You still wanted to look dressy and nice as a wedding is a special occasion, but it's not quite the same type of formality as a wedding later in the day. I'm going to my first noontime wedding next month, and I wanted to share an outfit that I put together as inspiration (that I might actually end up wearing for this wedding!).

Hot Pink Wedding Guest Dress.
Mondays are better then they involve something hot pink, right?! I saw this fun hot pink peplum dress while browsing online last month, and I knew I wanted to style it as a wedding guest dress option for a fun summer wedding. I'm also sharing a few of my my favorite places to find semi-formal and formal dresses at, so that you'll be all set for dress shopping for any weddings or other events later this summer.

How to do Black Tie on a Budget.
A couple weekends ago, I had the chance to attend a fun Black Tie charity gala here in Charlottesville! I love any chance to get all dolled up, and the fact that this was for a great local cause in my community made me even happier. I took my blogging friend Alicia as my plus one, which was a lot of fun! Today I'm sharing how I put together this Black Tie look on a tight budget. Guess how much I spent on the whole look? The answer is $0!! (For real!)

Affordable & Glamorous Sequin Outfit.
Even though Fashion Week is associated with expensive designer clothing pieces, I didn't let that deter me from my favorite affordable retailers when I was packing my outfits! Today's blog post features my very favorite outfit that I wore for NYFW, and you won't believe the price point.
ALSO- sharing a fun spring themed Rafflecopter giveaway at the end of this post that I'm participating in with some other bloggers, don't miss your chance to enter!

Sparkly Holiday Party Dresses On a Budget!
I'm taking a break from outfits in fall earth tones and neutrals for today... and adding a little SPARKLE to your Monday. Talking all about sparkly holiday and NYE party dresses that are all under $40!

Every Monday needs some sparkle right? I thought today would be the perfect time to share this darling dress. Sure, mid-November is still a little early to be thinking about New Years' style... but at the same time, why not buy your outfit for NYE early, and then not have to think about it until then? Plus, this fun dress could also work for other dressy holiday occasions before then.
Can you believe that this beautiful dress is a Shein find?! I'm very happy with the quality- look how bright and beautiful the sequins are! I ordered a M in this (I typically size up and order M in Shein), however this dress runs a bit large for them! I probably could've gotten away with a S, my normal size for other retailers. But the fact that it is a little loose on me makes it more comfortable to wear, so I guess that's a win. 😊The colors in this dress make me think of Las Vegas- one of my favorite cities!
My mom bought me these super cute heels for a wedding that I went to this summer! Sadly my pair is sold out now, but these are really similar. Since this dress is so colorful and eye-catching, I wanted my accessories to compliment it, and not compete with it. I love these crystal drop earrings from Sugarfix, and I added in some of my favorite Kendra Scott bracelets as well.
I hope y'all are having a good Monday! Last week was a really long week at work. I love working in radio because I genuinely love what I do and I really do have fun most days at my job, but last week was a (rare) week that my job felt more like stress and less like fun. I'm hoping this week will be off to a great start!
Linking my dress below, and some other cute sequin ones from Shein!!

Prom & Formalwear Trends 2018.
Today's post in sponsored by Angela & Alison. All opinions are honest and my own. Thank you for supporting the brands that support Southern Belle in Training!
When I was growing up, I couldn't wait to go to prom someday. The idea of wearing a beautiful dress and getting to dance the night away with friends seemed like the dream high school experience! My two proms have obviously now came and went many years ago... I think I dreamed them to be something much more exciting in my head as a little girl than they actually were. 😉However- one thing that was just as good as I imagined was the dress part of prom. I loved both of my prom dresses (one of them I loved so much I re-wore it for a sorority formal in college!), and I felt absolutely gorgeous both years.
Does anyone else wish that adults could go back to prom each year? (Mainly just so we can have a chance each spring to still get all dolled up and take advantage of spring formal trends!) I think I definitely need to investigate some black tie or formal events to attend and invite myself to for next spring... but until then, I'm definitely craving a fancy night out. Until then, I'm still fulfilling my passion for formalwear by collaboration today with Angela & Alison to share a couple of prom and formal dress trends for this season!
Photography by Kate Greer
Oh my goodness- I felt like a million dollars in this stunning gold dress from Angela & Alison! This is Style 81130, and I'm wearing a size 4, which was pretty much a perfect fit. This dress is made entirely of beautiful gold sequins, and it fades into silver sequins on the lower part of the dress, which creates a stunning illusion when the dress hits light! It's definitely a little bit of a sexy number between the plunging neckline and the leg slit, but sometimes you want to feel a little sexy for a very fancy occasion. (The chest part was a tiny bit big on me, so I am wearing nude colored sticky boobs with this dress!) I also love the beautiful beading along the sleeves. All in all, this is a gorgeous dress, and it would be incredible for prom, sorority formals, pageants, or other very formal occasions! It's my dream to someday attend a music awards show and get to walk on the red carpet- this might be the type of dress I'd wear for that.
I also had so much fun modeling Angela & Alison Style 81019! This incredible dress comes in four colors, I'm wearing it in Royal Blue. I'm wearing a size 4 in this dress as well- however this one ran very small (as formal dresses sometimes can). A 6 probably would have fit me better. This was my first time wearing a mermaid style dress, and I think I'm in love with them now! What a flattering style. I felt so glamorous in this dress, and ready to attend some sort of fancy, big-city event. I am 5'7 for height reference, and I actually didn't need to wear heels with this dress! It fit me perfectly wearing flat sandals. The beautiful tulle skirt covers up your shoes anyways, so why not be comfortable?
I felt like a true prom queen getting to try on these two beautiful Angela & Alison dresses! Angela & Alison dresses are sold at fine formalwear boutiques located worldwide, with lots of locations in the US and Canada. There are many stores in Virginia that carry this dress line, in areas such as Harrisonburg, Fredericksburg, Roanoke, and the DC suburbs. You can also connect with Angela & Alison on social media by following them on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram - it's the easiest way to stay up to date with their latest beautiful formalwear collections!
Which of the dresses from this post is your favorite? Have you worn an Angela & Alison dress before for a formal event or prom?

Shop Your Closet for Wedding Season: Part 3 - Weddings.
If you have a wedding (or lots of weddings!) coming up this season, you don't have to break the bank to find a new outfit for each one. Chances are you probably have wedding-ready dresses hanging in your closet already- I definitely do! I've already shared on the blog how to shop your own closet for bachelorette festivities, bridal showers and rehearsal dinners, which are important pre-wedding events. Today's post will share style inspiration straight from my closet if you're a guest for the main event!
You'll probably see from these outfits that I'm a fan of dressing up for all weddings, even for the more casual dress codes. Weddings are grand occasions that deserve to your finest fashions!! If you do receive an invite to a wedding with a more casual dress code, I still recommend doing your makeup a bit differently than normal, trying a fun hairstyle, and wearing some fun heels and accessories. 😊
One last wedding fashion tip! Check with the bride or someone in the bridal party to see what color(s) the bridesmaids dresses are- in addition to not wearing white (#duh), I'd recommend not wearing a dress that looks super similar to what the bridal party is wearing either.

As much as I love Lilly Pulitzer, I find a lot of their classic shift dresses to be a bit casual for weddings, and more suited for other wedding festivities such as bridal showers. However, some of Lilly's dress styles are made of different fabrics and are more formal in nature, making them perfect for weddings! I modeled this gold beauty during a collaboration last winter with Pink Colony in Stowe, Vermont. The dress is now out of stock, but this Lilly dress is very formal and would be perfect to wear to a wedding!
All weddings have different dress codes, depending on the venue, general ambiance, and time of year and day. Sometimes morning or early afternoon weddings can have a dressy-casual or semi-formal dress code. I think a lace midi dress like this would be a perfect for a daytime wedding, especially one outdoors in the spring! My exact dress is still in stock here, and it's also available at another retailer in more pretty colors!
Midi dresses are just good choices in general for weddings- they're a little bit classier than short dresses. My mom has always told me that green is one of the best colors on me, so I've kept this green pleated midi dress in my closet for a couple years now for formal events as needed! It's no longer in stock, but this dress is similar.
I might actually wear this exact dress for the wedding I have to go to this summer! Dresses of light, flowing material are ideal for summer weddings, and they won't hinder you from hitting the dance floor. I love the colors in this dress as well.
Ah- the Black Tie Wedding. I hope to have one of these myself someday!! If you're lucky enough to get an invite to such a glamorous affair, go all out! This is why it's good to always keep a floor length gown (or two!) in your closet. It's very fun to do a dramatic updo or half-updo with your hair for a black tie style as well. (Similar dress linked here)
Do you have a lot of weddings to attend this year? I have just one on the calendar for this summer, but I feel like a lot of my close friends are *just about* to be engaged.... like wedding-mania will be COMING for me in 2020 and 2021, haha!

Shop Your Closet For Wedding Season: Part 2 - Showers + Rehearsals.
It's time to talk wedding attire again! More specifically, how to restyle pieces from your own closet for weddings. Today's post will focus on two more important pre-wedding events: bridal showers and rehearsal dinners.
Unless each of these events has a specific theme or dress code specified on the invitation, it's a general rule of thumb to wear something nice and seasonally appropriate for the event, but not as nice of an outfit as you'll be wearing for the wedding. I'm personally a fan of really dressing up for weddings themselves, so events like showers and rehearsals are a great time to break out some of your more casual (but still classy) dresses and skirts, or even jumpsuits if you have them!

I think that a midi skirt and coordinating top with heels could be such a fun option for a bridal shower! I love printed midi skirts, but sometimes it's hard to find occasions to wear outfits like this to. I would probably wear a different colored blouse than white if I wore this to a bridal shower (just since it's best to avoid wearing white if you're not the bride 😉), but I could definitely see myself re-styling this outfit for a wedding shower.
Here's another skirt and top combo that I loved wearing on the blog that could easily be worn to a bridal shower!! The off the shoulder top paired with such a bold ruffled skirt makes for a really fun outfit. An all-pink outfit just screams "girly things" - and a bridal shower is super girly!
A cute sundress in a summery color like bright yellow could be a darling choice for a summer bridal shower! I styled this look with a turquoise clutch and earrings to add even more pops of color. This dress or one like it would definitely be too casual for a wedding, but could be a great option for a shower.
You can NEVER go wrong with Lilly Pulitzer for wedding related festivities! Especially those in the springtime. I do find a lot of Lilly dresses to be on the casual side for weddings themselves, but many are perfect for bridal showers and rehearsals. This specific dress is actually still in stock!
For holiday or winter wedding events, Lilly or bright colored dresses might not be the best choice. But you can still have fun with your outfits! This look was from a holiday blog post that I did a couple years ago, but I think it would be a great outfit to wear to a winter bridal shower or rehearsal dinner as well. The polka dots and bell sleeves give this dress such a fun twist. A similar dress is available here!
This was actually what I wore to a rehearsal dinner that I attended last spring! The dress is from one of my favorite fashion lines, CeCe. I added a coordinating cardigan to make it a bit more modest for the church portion of the wedding rehearsal, and then wore it as pictured for the dinner part of the evening. My dress is now sold out, but this one and this one from CeCe would be cute for this season!
Be sure to check out the first post in this series if you haven't yet, it's all about shopping your closet for bachelorette party outfits. The final post, all about weddings, will be up soon!
Hope that you're having a great end to your week! My mom is coming to visit me in Virginia this weekend- this will be her very first visit to Charlottesville! Neither of my parents had ever been to this part of the state before, and I came here solo on my job interview trip this winter. My mom is really excited to see where I moved to, and I think she will like it here a lot.
God Bless,
xoxo Annaliese

My Le Chateau Little Black Dress Story.
I'm so excited for today's blog post! Not only am I wearing a chic LBD that would be perfect for all sorts of holiday festivities, but it's from a retailer that is especially near and dear to my heart, and I can't wait to introduce you to this brand and store today/ It is always such a special experience on the blog when I do get to partner with a company that I've been a fan of for a long time, and today's post is no exception to that!

This is one of my favorite little black dresses that I've found in a long time! It could be dressed up or down for a variety of occasions. I think it would be perfect worn with tights and more subtle makeup for a formal office Christmas party, but it could also be very much dressed up for a holiday semi-formal event or night out, which is the look that I went for here. It's a very chic and figure-flattering dress, but it does so in a way that's very classy and not at all revealing (always a win-win!). And the long sleeves are an added bonus, especially for cold New England winters! I am headed to a cold destination for New Years' this year, so there is a high chance that this could end up being my NYE dress for 2018.
My dress and gold clutch are both from Le Chateau, and today I am excited to share more about my love for this brand with y'all! Le Chateau is a leading Canadian fashion company, founded in 1959 in Montreal. Since I grew up in Maine, I grew up spending long weekend vacations throughout the years in Quebec City and Montreal. I first discovered Le Chateau during a Quebec City vacation many years ago, and I still have some jewelry that I purchased there on that trip! My mom and I were in Montreal the summer between my junior and senior years of high school, and I found my senior year homecoming dress at a Le Chateau store in the city! It was was the cuteset LBD, and one of my favorite dresses that I ever wore to a high school dance. I ended up taking it with me to college, and re-wearing it for a formal during my freshman year, and then a few years later on giving it to a roommate for her to wear for a formal! The dress held up incredibly well, and still looked just as cute as the day my mom and I took it home from Montreal.
Today Le Chateau operates over 200 stores throughout Canada, a successful e-commerce website, and a handful of stores internationally. When I learned that my first job in radio would be taking me to Vermont, one thing that I was really excited for was being close to Canada again, and actually a lot closer than I was when I lived in Maine! I've made several Montreal day trips since I moved here, and it's been so much fun to rediscover the fun of shopping at Le Chateau. All of their clothing, accessories and shoes are very fashion forward, chic, and many exude pieces exude business casual elegance. I think of course that Le Chateau's best items are their gorgeous dresses! As you can see from today's photos, I now have a new Le Chateau LBD happily in my closet, and I already can't wait to wear it again.
The best news for those of y'all who don't live as close to the Canadian border as I do- Le Chateau has a US version of their website! That means that you too can enjoy all of their cute styles from the convenience of ordering online. (The only downside which I will note is that at this time, express shipping isn't an option for US orders. My order came in just over a week!) Definitely check out their website if you're looking for a cute holiday party or formal dress for an upcoming occasion. I've linked some favorites below:
Thanks so much for reading! Since today is Throwback Thursday, here's a TBT to my old favorite Le Chateau LBD. 😊
God Bless,
xoxo Annaliese

The Woman I Want To Be.
While I love many of Britney Spears' lyrics, "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman," from the song of hers with the same name, seemed to ring true in my life for the last few years especially. I surely can't be the only 90s girl who at one point thought that song was written just for me! However, my 23rd birthday was last month, and this one brought all sorts of new revelations that past birthdays haven't. This was the first one birthday in many years that my main occupation hasn't been being a student. Now not only do I live away from my parents, but I now live completely on my own, in a new-to-me state as well. I have a full-time career, and a second job with running this blog. I'm now responsible for all of my own major decisions, and it's both extremely scary and very liberating. It dawned on me shortly after my birthday this year that I don't think some of my favorite Britney lyrics apply to my life anymore! I'm definitely not a girl... because I am now a woman!
If you had asked me five years ago when I started blogging where I'd be at age 23, my answer would have probably been different. I'd wouldn't have ever wanted to leave the Carolinas, and I would have told you that I'd be hoping and praying to meet my future husband before finishing my freshman year of college! Clearly none of those things panned out... but God's plan is always more beautiful than our own. He is control over the plan for our life, but something I have control over is the type of woman that I want to be, as I continue to grow older and mature even more! Today I'd like to share with you the type of radio personality, blogger, coworker, friend, daughter, current single woman and hopefully someday future wife that I want to be:
I WANT TO BE A WOMAN WHO:
*Loves the Lord through both her words and her actions. I don't want to be known as a Sunday Christian. I want my faith to live through my lifestyle every single day. I want to be a light for Christ in a dark world. I never want to become vain- I always want to point my earthly successes back to Him.
*Loves those with different morals, lifestyle, and political beliefs the way that Christ did, not the way that the modern world creates division. Everyone is a child of God, and I want the love that I give to others around me to reflect that, in a non-judgmental way. I want to become confident in speaking about the things that I believe, but in a way that doesn't offend others, and instead points back to my faith.
*Continues to wait until marriage, and honor the promise that I chose to make to God when I was in high school.
*Makes attending church each week on Sunday morning (or Saturday/Sunday evening - depending on service times of the church) as necessary as showing up for work each day on time. Time spent in worship, prayer, and studying in the bible amongst the company of believers is essential, and I never want to take that for granted.
*Is a mentor to younger girls, either by volunteering through my church or another Christian organization, through future radio shows, through this blog, or a combination of all three.
I WANT TO BE A WOMAN WHO:
*Learns to respect the fact that my parents will always still be my parents, and not my "buddies". I want to take an interest in their lives as much as they do in mine, and learn to keep my temper when they disagree about a decision that I've made. I want to continue to show them how thankful I am for the fact that they encouraged me pursue to pursue my dreams, both educationally and professionally!
*Seeks out healthy friendships, and when I find them I seek to cherish and nurture them. A good friend should be treasured and loved. On the other hand, when involved in a friendship that is becoming toxic, I don't want to hold back in cutting the ties.
*Doesn't rush into relationships- whether those are romantic, friendships, or career based. I've learned in my younger years time and time again that "instant intimacy" always backfires, and the best relationships in life are those that develop naturally and with time.
*Is honest. Finding out that you've been lied to by someone close to you, especially again and again for a long time, is heart crushing. The truth can hurt, but never as much as a lie, and you can never fault someone for vocalizing the truth.
*On the same note, can recognize the familiar signs of a compulsive liar, and prevent myself from continuing to be burned by those types of toxic individuals.
I WANT TO BE A WOMAN WHO:
*Is a good financial steward. Continues to live within my means, and prioritizes putting money into savings accounts. I want to be generous with my money (especially once I've finished paying off school), and shower those that I love with gifts, and tithe regularly.
*Says yes to travel experiences over frivolous things. Who thinks thoughtfully about material purchases, but never hesitates to buy a plane ticket that will lead to new adventures or time well spent friends and family.
*Takes pride in financial independence. I want to educate myself about financial concepts that are currently unfamiliar to me: things like taxes, investments, etc. I want to continue to maintain excellent credit. And I want to encourage my fellow single female friends to do the same!
*Learns to know when to say yes, and when to say no. When to say yes to stepping outside of my comfort zone, and trying new experiences, and also when to say no to things that aren't right for me. I want to know myself well enough to know when too much is too much, and to never forget about self-care.
*Who chases her bucket list dreams with a passion. No matter how weird or silly some of them are, or unattainable-seeming others might be. Those are my dreams for a reason, and they should be pursued.
I WANT TO BE A WOMAN WHO:
*Never loses sight of someday becoming a nationally syndicated radio host. I don't ever want to forget the feeling of when I was growing up and falling in love with the power of radio- I want to be the power and share that with a new generation. I don't ever want to forget the sacrifices that I made in my young 20s for my career. Even if God's plan in the future takes me out of radio for a year or two... I want to keep my eyes fixed on the prize.
*Loves on orphans and those in foster care. I've never had a strong desire to be a biological mother, and as I've gotten older that desire hasn't really changed at all. But my heart for wanting to help babies and children who don't have families is huge. I pray that my future husband will share the same passion! If marriage isn't in the cards for me for awhile, I don't want to let that stop me from helping these children.
*Never loses my creative streak. I want to always make time in my life for hobbies and personal developments - sometimes the best medicine of all is putting work away and letting yourself dive into a creative project.
*Stays a morning person. This is a new one- my morning radio internship in broadcasting school is what finally turned this former perpetual night owl into someone with a new appreciation for the early day. Now I have a whole new perception on mornings, and it's been magical (and also a big help to my migraines). I want to keep this!
*Remembers to always send a handwritten thank you note after a generous gift or action.
I WANT TO BE A WOMAN WHO:
*Never loses her love of 90s and early 2000s music, especially one hit wonders.
*Always keeps a well-maintained lingerie drawer... not necessarily because of a man in my life, but because every woman deserves to have nice undergarments for themself!
*Loves the things that I love and not being ashamed of that. Whether that means continuing to expand my collection of Starbucks mugs, dropping random knowledge of geography and radio fun facts, dancing extra enthusiastically to music by Pitbull or LMFAO, and quoting That 70s Show and How I Met Your Mother frequently.
*Never forgets the two best medicines to any problem: laughter and dancing.
*Who never, ever, ever forgets what SouthernBelleinTraining.com means to her. 😊
Thank you Alyce Paris for the beautiful dress that I'm wearing in today's photos! Photography by Amanda Rose Photography.
God Bless,
xoxo Annaliese
