3 Months in Virginia Beach - How It's Going So Far!

      I can't believe that it's already been three months since I moved to Virginia Beach! I feel like I blinked and the first 90 days went by. Although I share small day-to-day updates week week in my Midweek Ramblings posts, I thought it might be good to get all caught up on how everything has really been going since I moved here. (Spoiler alert: very good!)

What I Wore to Work: September 2021

      Here are this month's work outfits! While there usually are warm days in Virginia in October and November, September is typically the last very hot month. Southern Belle in Training Turns 9 Today!!

      This blog turns nine years old today!! I can't even believe it. I've been posts here for the entirety of my college years, early and mid 20s, and now I'm still continuing into my late 20s, which also start today. Yes, my blogiversary and birthday are the same day! Today I also turn 27. 

What I Wore to Work: August 2021

     It feels so good to be back sharing a month's worth of work outfits with y'all! I skipped the month of July as it was a whirlwind month with wrapping up at my old job, moving and unpacking in Virginia Beach and starting my new job. Things definitely feel a bit more "normal" being able to document my work outfits for the blog again. 

     My work style hasn't changed too much at my new job. Radio is overall a casual industry, and I do tend to dress up a little more than needed for all the jobs I've had. It was a hot month here in Virginia Beach, so I tried to wear a decent amount of summer Lilly Pulitzer pieces and some of my other favorite summer dresses and tops! 4th of July Wedding Outfit.

     Originally I was planning to share two 4th of July themed red, white and blue outfits on the blog before the holiday this year... this casual patriotic outfit, and today's outfit! But the quick timing of my unexpected new job and move to Virginia Beach had me get behind on blog things. Today's is dressier and I feel like it would be the perfect thing to wear to a 4th of July weekend wedding. Anyways- better late than never to share this right?! Maybe some inspiration for next year? Haha!

     My summer clothes have been out in full swing with this month's work outfits! I'm loving all of the dress and skirt opportunities. Summer fashion just makes me so happy! It's been a pretty standard month of weather for June in Charlottesville this year- lots of hot and humid days with a few cooler ones mixed in randomly.        Happy National Wear Your Lilly Day! We have officially entered the season for Lilly Pulitzer. Summer 2021 is looking to be much more normal than Summer 2020, and I am bursting with excitement for all the fun social events coming up that I can wear Lilly for (and none of them include Zoom!). Lessons From A Birthday Identity Crisis.

     Let's start this week off with a confession: I woke up on my birthday a few weeks ago having a full blown identity crisis. It was unexpected in the moment for sure! But I'm thankful for the reflections that it's lead me to have since- and I wanted to share a few with you today.

     Yesterday marked eight years of blogging here at Southern Belle in Training! Eight years... this is a weird analogy but that means if my blog was a child, it would be a third grader this year. Insane! I still can't believe that something I started as a hobby as a college freshman is still such a big part of my life today. 

Golden Goose Dupe Sneakers (That I CAN'T Stop Wearing!)

     Another plot twist of 2020? It's the year I fell back in love with wearing sneakers- for non-athletic purposes that is! For the past several years, wearing sneakers solely for fashion hasn't really been my thing. If I wasn't working out or doing something with a lot of walking, I wouldn't have been wearing them. I definitely think it's the rise in popularity for Golden Goose sneakers over the past year that's had me reconsidering wearing sneakers more often again. 

    I'm not sure if you've ever looked into buying Golden Goose sneakers, but they aren't cheap. (I'm honestly not sure there's a more overpriced shoe currently out there- I mean that!) The good news? I've found the most affordable pair of white star sneakers that are so great they deserved their own blog post today! Dare I say I think these are even cuter than Golden Goose? Plus they're on sale right now!!

     Time for another month of summer work outfits! As I do with most summer months, I wore a good amount of Lilly Pulitzer to work. I always miss wearing my Lilly regularly in the winter, so I try to take advantage of the work-friendly pieces that I have as much as I can in the warmer months.      Hello and happy Monday! I'm back in Virginia from visiting my parents in Maine- let's just say my 3:30am alarm for work felt extra early today. But it's good to get back in the swing of things! Let's kick off this week with a summer outfit post- I gotta share my last few summer outfits soon because fall will be here before we know it. 

What to Wear To Work When There's No Dress Code.

      Workplace dress codes can vary so much from office to office and industry to industry. There's the flexible and ever-popular business casual, to the conservative and esteemed business formal. It's fairly easy to find resources with suggestions on building your work wardrobe for the various dress codes. But what about when your workplace doesn't have a dress code? How do you dress each day? How much do you take advantage of the flexibility? 

     The two full-time jobs I've had in my adult life have something big in common: no dress code for the studios at either of them! That's pretty common for on-air folks in the radio industry. Since I've had a few years of practice of setting my own dress code, I wanted to share my tips with you today. As well as one of my favorite casual looks from this summer that would be a great for a more casual workplace!

What I Wore to Work: July 2020

     I can't believe summer is about halfway over now! What even is this year? The day move by so slowly, but the months are quickly blending together. Hopefully I'm not the only one who feels that way?

    I have slightly less work outfits to share for July than I have for the past few months. Part of that was because of some time off that I recently had from work, and there were also a few days this month I forgot to snap pictures of my outfits. It's been a really hot month in Virginia so the AC at work has been even colder than normal, so you'll also notice I wore more jeans to work this month than the last couple! During the hottest months of the year I'm always the coldest at work- funny how that is!
