What to Wear to Tate McRae's "Miss Possessive" World Tour

One the things I am most looking forward to this fall is seeing Tate McRae on the Miss Possessive Tour with some of my girlfriends! Tate has become one of my absolute favorite pop artists over the past year. Her music feels so nostalgic to early 2000s pop, especially Britney Spears's earlier albums. I was lucky enough to see her in concert for the first time last December on the iHeart Radio Jingle Ball Tour, but I cannot wait to get the chance to see her headline an arena tour!

Tate's style is extremely "Gen Z Cool Girl." She's able to make very casual outfits look both sexy and effortless! She favors black, dark red and neutrals in most of her looks, but still likes pops of glam here and there. Her style is honestly a bit intimidating to me as a 30-year old preppy fashion lover. One of my colorful Lilly Pulitzer dresses would certainly not fly at a Tate McRae concert. 😂 I'm viewing attending this concert as a chance to get out of my normal fashion comfort zone.

Below are some affordable outfit ideas for Tate McRae's Miss Possessive Tour! A lot of these finds also come in multiple color options.

Wedding Wednesday: Our Wedding Playlists

When I would dream about my future wedding day when I was in high school, college and my early 20s, the number one part of the wedding day that I'd fixate on and dream about specifically was the wedding reception dance floor. I love to dance, and the thought of being on a dance floor surrounded by the love of my life and all of the people in our lives that we love seemed like heaven on earth to me! I joked to friends in the months leading up to the wedding that the one aspect of wedding planning that I was a bridezilla about was anything to do with our wedding reception playlist! God bless the poor DJ that would have to put up with me. 😉

Anyways, before I get into recapping our full wedding reception on the blog, I wanted to share a detailed blog post with our wedding playlists, for cocktail hour, dinner and of course the dance floor! Below you can read about the must-plays, the do-not plays, and even the newest songs I would've added to the playlist that didn't exist yet in November 2024. And of course I have plenty of dance floor photos to share with you too!

What to Wear to Megan Moroney's "Am I Okay?" Tour 💙

My first concert of 2025 will be seeing country singer Megan Moroney in a couple weeks! She's currently on her "Am I Okay?" tour, and it's the largest tour that she's done to-date, with shows all over the US this spring, summer and fall. I've been a fan of Megan since first she came on the country music scene a few years ago. Her first hit single "Tennessee Orange" started gaining popularity during my first year working in country radio, and I've loved following the rise of her career ever since. I thought it would be fun to share some concert outfit inspiration for Megan's current tour!

Easy DIY Halloween Costume: Genie in a Bottle!

"If you wanna be with me, Baby there's a price to pay, I'm a Genie in a Bottle..." There's been a lot of things cancelled in 2020, but Halloween costumes didn't have to be! I'm excited to share the couples' costume that I did this week with my radio co-host Marc: Genie in a (2020 Corona) Bottle

Easy DIY Halloween Costume: Britney Spears' "...Baby One More Time"

The last time (and I think only time?) that I did a whole blog post dedicated to a DIY Halloween costume was three years ago! Crazy how the time flies. Anyways, the blog post featuring my Bachelorette costume has gotten a lot of traffic this past month! That inspired me to share one of my costume's for this year in today's post. This is another really easy DIY costume! I spent a total of $10 on this- all I had to purchase were the socks and the hair accessories (and you might already own those things!)

This post contains affiliate links. Thank you for supporting Southern Belle in Training!

{I'm not even going to bother to link anything specific that I'm wearing because it's all older pieces from my closet! 😉 That's how easy this costume is.}

If you've been reading here for awhile, you probably know that I am a huge fan of Britney Spears, specifically of her early music! Late 90s/early 2000s pop culture is my JAM. One of my biggest highlights of the past few years was seeing Britney's Piece of Me residency in Las Vegas for my 22nd birthday! My very first CD was Britney's sophomore release, Oops!...I Did It Again. I distinctly remember going with my mom to the CD section of Sam's Club and picking it out, and then listening to it on repeat for years on my portable CD player and boom box. ...Baby One More Time (the album with the look my costume is inspired by) is actually Britney's first album, I purchased her second and first out of order when I was growing up! But I loved them both (and still do!). I'm currently trying to figure out a way to get back out to Vegas for Britney's new show, which opens in the winter!

Given my adoration for Ms. Spears, I'm kind of surprised that I've never tried to do this costume, or a different Britney look, for Halloween in the past! I guess I wanted to save this idea for a Halloween in the future, and now is the time! It worked out to do it in 2018, since this year is the 20th anniversary of the song. There are so many great Britney costumes that you can do, but I wanted to take it way back to her first single, as the sexy but innocent school girl look from the ...Baby One More Time video is so easy to recreate.

Here's what you'll need if you want to do this costume:

I am so excited to wear this costume either this weekend or on Halloween night! So easy and fun to put together, and it's a tribute to one of my favorite artists and 90s pop songs.

My company is doing a Halloween costume contest next week- I'm actually doing a different costume for work! My only hint that I'll give is that it's one that I've done in the past... but I've revamped it and made it better for this year! You'll have to stay tuned to my Instagram on Halloween to see that one.

Please tag me on Instagram or other social media if you try my Bachelorette costume or this one this year. I'd love to see!

     God Bless,

Midweek Ramblings.

{Outside of The White House this weekend with my DC friend, Mercedes! Follow me on social media @miss_alk}

Ramblings:
  • Inna Concert: I apologize for sounding super redundant if you watched my Instagram stories about this after I got home from DC, but y'all- I went to one of the best concerts ever on Saturday night! Since high school, I've loved Romanian pop artist Inna. I think I first found her through Pandora back in the day (she hasn't had a lot of success on US commercial radio- which I don't understand since she's amazing!). Anyways, she doesn't tour in the US often, but was doing a few shows this fall, and the one this past Saturday was in DC. It was at the Howard Theater, which is a very intimate venue. The show was incredible! Inna sounds even better live, and her concert was like one giant party. If you like Clean Bandit or Calvin Harris, you'd probably like Inna- her sound is very Europop/house music, and she has a beautiful voice. This September has been kind of a rough month for me, so attending this concert in DC with one of my dear friends was such a blessing!
  • Fall TV: I get so hyped about fall TV that I dedicated my entire blog post on Monday to this topic! Have you watched any of the premieres yet? The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon both had fantastic episodes on Monday night- and it's a great week for fans of those shows, since both have new episodes again airing tomorrow night! Tonight I'm excited for season three of Star, and the premiere of A Million Little Things.
  • Two Headed Snake: In REALLY creepy Virginia news, a (LIVE!) two-headed snake was found in Virginia this week. I wouldn't consider myself to be super scared of snakes... but now that I know that poisonous ones with two heads are alive in this state... it's safe to say I'm a little worried. Yikes!

Weekend recaps:
  • Last weekend: I had a wonderful little weekend getaway to DC! This has now been my third trip there since I moved to Virginia- I think I'm going to try and keep going once a season. The main reason that I went up was for the Inna concert, but Mercedes and I still made time to tour the Capitol and Library of Congress on Saturday morning, and eat at my favorite restaurant, The Cheesecake Factory! On the way back to Charlottesville on Sunday, I stopped to meet up with a friend of mine from my old retail job in college. All in all, a perfect weekend.
  • This weekend: My mom is here visiting me in Charlottesville right now! I have to work on Saturday (my usual radio schedule is M-F, but some Saturdays I do have to work), but hopefully Sunday after church I will get to do something fun with my mom. Maybe a winery visit?

Purchases:
  • Had to do some shopping at Zara while in DC- one of my very favorite stores! Zara is sadly really hard for me to link for y'all from their website (one of the main reasons I prefer to shop there in-store and not online!), but I've found similar items to what I got. First up is a gorgeous orange sweater dress- this one is very similar!
  • I also purchased a new pair of jeans. Zara jeans are my FAVORITE, and for under $100 the quality is great (many pairs are also under $50). If you have a store near you, take advantage of the great denim! (I wouldn't buy this online as their sizing can run weird from pair to pair.)

Wishlist:
  • A lot of bloggers are super excited this week about the launch of the Something Navy Collection at Nordstrom! This is my favorite piece from the collection.
  • This is a great staple shirt for fall (pefect for layering) - it's on sale for under $20 right now! That's like NSale pricing.
  • Animal print is all the rage again this fall. These printed loafers are gorgeous!
  • This Draper James dress needs to get in my closet ASAP.
  • This going-out dress comes in multiple colors, and is under $30! I think the style of it looks a lot more expensive than the price.

Recipe of the week: Crispy Black Bean and Rice Burritos from Gimme Delicious. I know I've shared this recipe before- but it's so easy and cheap to make! When I make this recipe, I love eating the burritos for dinners, and then I will take just the rice and corn/beans from this recipe to work for lunches!

Song of the week: Yalla by Inna. Obviously sharing an Inna song this week since her concert was amazing! This is one of my favorite songs of hers, and I was so excited she did it at the show.

On the blog this week:

Radio 101: Why Do I Hear The Same Songs Over and Over On The Radio?

Since beginning my career in radio, there is one question that I've been asked far more than others. "Why does the radio play the same 5/10/15/20 songs OVER and OVER and OVER?" And then that question is usually followed up with ones like "Don't they know there's other good music? Don't the radio personalities get sick of the same songs? Are you the one picking the same songs?" For this month's Radio 101 blog post, I'm going to be breaking down the mystery surrounding airplay, especially in the Top 40 (technical term being Contemporary Hit Radio, or "CHR") format. I work mainly in CHR radio, so my perspective is best on this format, but some of the things that I'll be explaining in today's post could definitely be applied to other formats of "current" radio, like Contemporary Christian or Country Hits radio.

I think there is a huge misconception in radio that DJs like myself pick all the songs that play! That couldn't be further from the truth. (Just like you probably were... I was also quite tired this summer of hearing Despacito and I'm The One every 30 mins!) Just about all radio stations these days use computer software that communicates with the broadcasting equipment, and then plays the songs in the day's playlist over the air. To start at the beginning, I'll explain a bit about how music is played on the radio these days. My company uses a music software called NextGen, which is a popular one. This is the same software that I learned how to use in broadcasting school in their studios, so I found this convenient when I began my job! Anyways, NextGen is the program on our station computers that our commercials, songs, and talk breaks are loaded into. It then produces a visual log, and a countdown clock, so that I when I'm live at work I can see the songs and commercials that are up next, what time my talk breaks are at, and how long I have to talk (sometimes it's just a few seconds!).

Now you're probably wondering how the music gets into our NextGen program! That's the job of the station's Program Director, which is the radio term for a manager/supervisor/boss. (In larger radio stations or markets, there will also be an Assistant Program Director, or a Music Director, for each station who might be more in charge of music scheduling. But in smaller markets like where I am in Vermont, the Program Director wears a lot of hats!) The PD's job is to schedule each week's music into NextGen or whichever type of software the station uses, and to do so according to industry standards for the type of station that it is. This probably varies from radio station to radio station, but music gets loaded anywhere from a few days to over a week in advance. That means when I come into the studio for work each day, I can have access to seeing the whole log (playlist) for that day, or even upcoming days in advance, as in when which songs will play at what times!

DJs can override NextGen's prescheduling to some extent. When I get listener requests, I can move songs around or delete songs so that listeners can hear their requests within the hour. Generally speaking, we aren't supposed to mess with the log of songs that much though.... because of what I'm about to talk about next!

So now that you know how music plays at the radio station, let's talk about the actual music! So often in CHR radio (or other formats with their top songs), it seems like only the same 10 songs play over and over and over, with little variety. Radio playlists are made up primarily by what songs are charting high nationally on the song charts in the genre of the radio station, but how do those songs make up the charts and gain popularity in the first place? The charts and brand new music are both influenced directly be record labels, and their reps. Each major artist today that is getting a lot of radio airplay is represented by a huge record label. You might recognize some of the names of the top record labels: Columbia, Def Jam, Interscope, RCA... the list goes on! These record companies (and many more smaller ones) represent the top musicians in the country right now. Selling music and selling an artist is a type of sales job, so the record labels employ reps that work as traveling salespeople, and visit with radio station Program Directors around the country, trying to get them to pick up new songs from their artists that fit the genre of the radio station.

The Program Directors for both stations that I work for are visited frequently by reps of the record labels. Considering that I work in a small market all the way in Northern Vermont... I can only imagine that Program Directors in large city markets get visited even more frequently, and that there's even more pressure to play the songs that the labels are pushing! If an artist with the immense popularity of someone like Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber or Rihanna releases new music, you can almost guarantee it will get Top 40 airplay immediately, as artists like these have an enormous presence in the industry and a huge fan base. Songs by established artists like these often don't take long to shoot to the top of the charts. However, it's with newer and up and coming artists where radio airplay can vary regionally. A record label might focus a lot on getting a new artist into certain markets where they think that person would appeal first. For example, Aaron Carter had a comeback album that came out this winter. My boss played the first hit single from the album for a good few months on the main station that I work for, as did a few other CHR stations across the country. However, this song didn't quite chart nationally (although it was a very good song!). There were also a few up and coming artists who you would hear on Charlotte's radio stations- often people who would be brought in to do concerts or meet and greets since that's a larger market. But those artists have since faded and I've never heard them played once in Vermont. It probably means that their record label was heavily targeting Charlotte.

Now as far as how often songs are played on the radio- that varies as you can expect by what's big on the charts! The Program Director will schedule music for that day and week by putting what's at the top of the charts in heavy rotation. The top songs in the country (on the radio charts- different from the Spotify/streaming charts) you will be hearing in heavy rotation in CHR radio, usually once an hour with the top five songs. Throughout the day, older, formally popular songs will also play to mix things up, which are either "Recurrents" or "Golds" - depending on their age. A recurrent is a song that was at the top of the charts in the last 1-2 years, so it's something that people are still recently very familiar with. Two recurrents on my station right now are from early 2017- "Let Me Love You" by Justin Bieber and "Rockabye" by Clean Bandit. A "Gold" is a song that's a few years old or even older, a "classic" if you will that everyone knows when it comes on, and that was at the top in its heyday. A few popular Golds in CHR radio are "Yeah!" by Usher, "Toxic" by Britney Spears and "Umbrella" by Rihanna.

How often Recurrents and Golds play each day depends on the Program Director and radio company, and the flavor of the station. Before my station relaunched in August, we were playing a lot of brand new music and more recurents, but less golds. Now with our rhythmic hip hop lean, we play two golds an hour! I don't remember the station that I interned for in Charlotte playing that many golds at all, but they were a large market.

Sorry if this post is a bit wordy- but I hope that it helped you to understand a bit about the mysteries of why some songs play more than others in certain genres of radio! Even though I went to broadcasting school last year and had radio internships, a lot of the record label politics and such were things I didn't learn about until starting my job this spring. I hope most of all what comes across through these monthly Radio 101 posts is how much I love the field of radio and love sharing what I know  and work with everyday with others!

Feel free to send any radio related questions for next month's Radio 101 post! Have a wonderful weekend!

      God Bless,

xoxo Annaliese (aka Charlotte XO on-air!)

Spring Pastels + Blooms.

I did a shopping fast during the month of May, so I had to get creative in restyling things that I already had in my closet. No girl wants to be an "outfit repeater," but sometimes you just have to think outside the box a little bit when re-wearing things that you already have! At the end of this blog post I'm also sharing a few new songs that I've been loving lately.

I first styled these shorts last year in this blog post! I am still in love with them for this season. A gorgeous violet hue, seersucker, AND a big bow... what more could you want! (FYI they also come in a bunch of other pretty colors!) I knew that in creating a new outfit with them I wanted them to have a totally different look. I recently received this adorable OTS top in the mail from Charming Charlie to style, and I thought the light pink and violet would compliment each other well. My blue purse (which my mom rediscovered in my room at home in Maine when she was packing things for my recent move!) added a final pop of pastel color. I think this outfit reminds me of Easter egg colors, and since Easter is my favorite holiday that just makes me happy! 😊

Working in radio, I spend the majority of my day listening to music. A lot of it does blend together, but a few new summer hits have stuck out to me. Now, a few new songs that I've been loving lately:

Katy Perry ft. Nicki Minaj - Swish Swish

I've never been a huge Katy Perry fan in the past, but y'all I am digging some of her new stuff (just not the weird new haircut...). This song has an infectious beat and reminds me of early Britney Spears music.

Anne Marie - Ciao Adios

Anne Marie is the lead vocals in Clean Bandit's mega hit from earlier this year, Rockabye. She has a solo track out now on her own, and it's very catchy and fun! Such a good breakup anthem.

Chace & Moski - For a Day

My station actually isn't playing this song, but another local Top 40 has been, and I am OBSESSED with it! It has such a good club/European Dance pop vibe to it. Listen to this and you won't be able to stop.

Wishing you all a wonderful start to your weekend!

       God Bless,

xoxo Annaliese (or Charlotte XO on the radio!)

Midweek Ramblings + Recent Purchases + Current Wishlist.

Ramblings:

  • Happy Graduation! On Friday, I will be a graduate again! My class from broadcasting school graduates from our program this Friday evening. I have a bit of a unique situation since I moved to New England last month to begin my new job, so I will be getting to participate in my graduation via the marvels of modern technology! It is a little bit bittersweet- my class at broadcasting school was very small and close knit, and I was close with many of the instructors as well. But the goal of the program is to get a job in the business and that's exactly what I did so I really have nothing to complain about! On Friday in honor of Graduation Day, I'll be publishing a special blog post sharing all about what exactly broadcasting school is, who should look into or do broadcasting school, and why I'm glad decided to do my program!
  • Blogging legalities: I've been blogging for several years and am at a point where I make a regular side income from it now, I'm starting to look into educating myself with some of the more legal aspects of blogging. One of the things I've been looking into is at what point in blogging it's appropriate to make things "legal" and become either an S-Corp or an LLC (and also what the differences are between the two!). This is a podcast that breaks it down for bloggers and other creatives- and I listened to it this past week and found it very helpful as I'm starting to think about these things!
  • New music girl crush: Since I work in Top 40 radio, I actually have been listening to a lot more other types of music when I'm at my desk after getting off-air or outside of work. Don't get me wrong- I love Top 40!! Just after having to listen to it for several hours a day while at work, I need to clear my head outside of the radio studio. Country music is something that I've been getting more into lately, especially since the weather is warming up. I think that I have a total music girl crush on country singer Kelsea Ballerini! I've been listening to her album a lot on Spotify, and her hit song Peter Pan I feel especially relates to something that happened in my life earlier this year. Love her voice and hope I get the chance to see her in concert someday!

Purchases:
  • As I shared in Thursday's blog post, I'm in progress with a four week shopping fast! Read this post to learn more about what this is and why I'm doing it!

Wishlist:

  • So Vermont fashion is definitely different than Southern style.... actually saying it's different is probably the understatement of the century haha!! It would take a whole blog post, or a blog post series, to appropriately dive into that. Along those lines, my workplace is extremely casual, but as y'all know I'm a girly girl at heart who  loves to dress up! Anyways, I'm trying to figure out ways to bring my fancy and girly side into the work place without looking too overdone. I think that for summer I'll need to invest in some more casual dresses. A lot of my dresses are very bright and patterned, but if I want to try out some Vermont style this summer I'll have to experiment with "toning it down" a bit. Anyways- this dress caught my eye! It feels very "Vermont" to me but is still quite chic, and I could also definitely wear it to work.
  • This necklace is such a fun alternative to wearing a traditional monogram necklace! I like the modern feel. And can we talk about how it's under $20?!
  • Is it just me, or is this elegant cold shoulder top classy enough to pass a business casual dress code?
  • I like this style of heeled shoes but most of the ones that I've seen are really high. These have a low heel so they'd be great for work or weekday wear!
  • This favorite jewelry brand of mine hasn't really hit popularity status up in Vermont yet... such a shame! But I'm still loving these pretty earrings from their new arrivals.

Hoping that it's a great Wednesday for you! I'm so happy- after a couple weeks of a lot of rainy and cold weather, today it is FINALLY warm and sunny here in Burlington! I'm looking forward to getting outdoors after work today.

     God Bless,

xoxo Annaliese (or Charlotte XO on the radio!)

Midweek Ramblings + Recent Purchases + Current Wishlist.

{A snap from the radio studios at my broadcasting school campus, in honor of my radio internship starting this week!}

I started these Midweek Ramblings + Recent Purchases posts quite awhile ago now, and wasn't as consistent with them through the end of last year. But y'all seem to love them, and always ask me where they are if I miss a few weeks! To mix things up for the new year, I'm adding on a "current wishlist" category now as well.

Ramblings:

  • New year, new internship: Yesterday I began a radio show internship! To graduate from my program at broadcasting school, all students have to complete an off-campus internship in their field of choice. I've known that I've wanted to work in radio for many years (really since I began college!), but it was being in broadcasting school over that last several months that has solidified it for me, and made me realize that it's 100% radio that I want to do, and not TV or production work. Anyways- I'm having a very good first week at my new internship. I am interning for  morning show, so the 3:30 AM wakeup time will still be an adjustment this month. But so far I am really enjoying being in the radio station, and I love the fast-paced work environment. It isn't an on-air internship, but getting to do a lot of work behind-the-scenes right now will only prepare me for the future!
  • Getting back to fitness: Something that I really fell away from for the better part of 2016 was working out. I did pretty well with fitness throughout college, but after graduation I was focussing mainly on adjusting to broadcasting school and my new post-grad schedule, and fitness kept getting pushed to the back burner. It's my main New Year's resolution for 2017 to make working out a priority again, and I'm trying to hold myself very accountable! I have my radio internship three mornings a week, and I'm still waking up early on the other two mornings and using those as gym days. It's a win-win: I'm able to get a workout in, and still stick to my new weekday schedule! I'm currently very rusty as I get back into running, but I hope to be able to run a 5k distance later this year.
  • A new/old music favorite: If you like dance-pop music with an amazing beat, you should check out Romanian singer Inna. I first discovered her music in high school, but I rediscovered my love for her about a month ago, thanks to Spotify.  She's released a lot of new music in the last couple of years, and it's all so fun and upbeat! Great workout music especially (or motivating music for long days at work).
  • Ain't no party like the AFTER PARTY: Talking more about this in the new "current wishlist" section of this post- but there is a big sale happening tomorrow! Read my last recap blog post of the Summer 2016 After Party Sale here

Recent Purchases:
  • I exchanged a couple of Christmas gifts while I was home, and ended up getting my very first cashmere scarf instead! The exact scarf that I picked isn't online, but this one is from the same retailer and has a similar pattern/colors.
  • This sweater just arrived to me (c/o) and I can't wait to style it for the blog soon! It's my first off-the-shoulder sweater- I was intrigued that this trend stuck around for the winter months, but it's grown on me.
  • I received one of the main items on my Christmas list this year!! I haven't gotten a chance to use it yet, but I can't wait to soon.

Current Wishlist:
  • My current wishlist is looking a little pink and green.... because if you haven't heard the "spilled juice" (in true Lilly terms), the winter After Party Sale kicks off TOMORROW!! 8 AM EST - be there or be square. Now is the time to update your shipping and billing information on Lilly's website, if you've shopped an After Party Sale before, then you know that the website will be utter madness tomorrow.
  • In the last two After Party Sales, I've purchased an Elsa top. I love Elsas, but they are a bit on the costly side at full price. You can get AMAZING deals on them in After Party Sales- but you need to be able to shop right when the sale goes live! These are often the first items to go. I currently have my eye on this one and this one- hoping that these might be in the sale!
  • I wore Lilly for my college graduation in May, and I wouldn't have had it any other way. To me, a Lilly dress is the epitome of Southern spring style. Fortunately for me, I have another graduation coming up this May! I finish my broadcasting school program about exactly a year after I graduated college. I plan to wear Lilly again for my next graduation. I'm thinking that I'm on the hunt for a Lilly dress that would look something like this bright shift or this colorful embroidered one.

My weekly question for you: are you planning to shop the After Party Sale tomorrow? If so, which pieces are you hoping to score?

Britney Spears Piece of Me Las Vegas: Concert Recap.

I was in Las Vegas for Labor Day Weekend and as an early 22nd birthday celebration earlier this month. The highlight of the trip, and quite honestly the reason that the trip came into being, was so that I could fulfill my lifelong dream of seeing Britney Spears live in concert. Britney has had a residency at Planet Hollywood in Vegas since December 2013, and I knew that I would never forgive myself if I didn’t make it out there to see her perform before her show ended. I traveled to Vegas with my current roommate Ciera, and one of her good friends Priyanka (who has also become a friend of mine!). We all couldn't wait to see Britney perform at last!

Performing 'Til the World Ends
Britney's residency was just recently extended through 2017, but at the time that I booked the trip her last shows were still planned for September 2016, so I was able to get in just in the knick of time! I’m on a pretty strict budget this year, as I’m paying for broadcasting school myself  (and my college student loan payments begin next month as well...), but I justified making one sort of crazy financial decision and using a good deal of my graduation money for the Vegas trip! While a lot of my 2016 has been wonderful, there have been some very low points as well, and I knew that living out my dream of seeing Britney in Vegas was exactly what I needed to look forward to.

Britney Spears performs at The AXIS concert venue inside of Planet Hollywood, which is located right on the Las Vegas Strip. The AXIS is a more intimate concert hall then some of the other ones on the Strip- there really isn't a bad seat in the place! Britney's tickets are not on the cheap side, so we opted to sit further away. Our seats were in section 206 and the tickets cost around $160 a piece. Even though we weren't in a front section, the venue is small enough that we still felt very close to the stage! The concert hall reminded me a lot of my church in Charlotte (Granted I do attend a very large church!), but I feel like you couldn't really have a bad seat no matter what section you were in.

We arrived to Planet Hollywood very early, before the doors opened to concert. And once the doors did open, it was another half hour or so until the ushers let people go in and take their seats. But the wait for the concert to begin was almost as much fun as the show itself! In the lobby area of The AXIS, there were displays of some of Britney's most famous concert, awards show, and music video outfits. Of course I had to take a photo with the iconic Oops!...I Did It Again red jumpsuit!

There was a great playlist of really fun and upbeat dance music that played for about an hour before the show began. But at long last, it was finally time for the main event: Ms. Spears!

Performing Circus

Performing Toxic (with a jungle twist)

I basically filled up my phone with pictures from the concert, but later on when I went back and looked at most of them I realized that the majority were blurry- probably due to the fact that I was dancing and singing my (off-key) heart out while also snapping away! So I'm only sharing a couple. I will say though that Britney's performance value of her show was mind-blowing. The lights (especially the lights!), interesting twists on classic hits, her outfits, and most of all, the dancing, was just incredible to see live and first-hand. 100% worth the trip to Vegas! From the time that the show began to almost two hours later when it ended, Britney literally did not stop moving. She was like a dancing Energizer Bunny machine. Absolutely unbelievable! Her dance moves are off-the-charts, and most certainly put mine to shame. ;-)

My one complaint about the concert is that the set-list seemed to be very focused on some of her later albums, like Blackout and Circus. Britney's most recent album, Glory, also released about a week before we saw her in concert, so naturally she had mixed songs from this album into the setlist as well. Every single song that she performed was fantastic (I can't stress this enough!), but as someone who idolized Britney when I was a little girl and is still obsessed with 90s/early 2000s music, I was a little bit sad that the show didn't focus more on those albums. For example, she performed a brief medley of Oops...! I Did It Again and Baby One More Time... - those are two incredible songs on their own that I don't think ever should be mashed together! But maybe that's just me. Either way, the bottom line is that she was still phenomenal to see live.

I didn't shoot any outfit posts in Vegas, as we were only there for the weekend and I wanted to take that weekend off from the blog. But I did write a post last week about some of our favorite restaurants on the Strip that we ate at that are perfect for travelers on a budget- be sure to check out the post if you haven't! Vegas is one of my favorite vacation spots ever, and I know this was definitely not my last trip! (Especially since the Backstreet Boys just announced last week that they're starting their residency next year.... Lord help me!)

Ramblings:

  • Lent: I'm really excited to be giving up something for Lent this year! Every year of college, I have wanted to participate in Lent fasting. Even though I am not Catholic, I think that all people of Christian faith can still celebrate this special season. Yet each year the Mardi Gras holiday happens before I can even catch my breath, and then Easter is here already before I know it! But I made sure that didn't happen this year. For my Lent fast, I am not giving up a food item, but instead something a bit more untraditional. Starting today (and until Easter), I am giving up social media after 10:30 pm. With my blog (and honestly just with being a Communication major!), I cannot give up social media entirely as it's something that I both use for the business of blogging and need for some academic purposes. But I do realize that it can become a bit addictive for me, and many of my favorite websites and apps keep me up way past bedtime each night. By cutting my social media off early during Lent, I'm hoping to use this extra time each night for homework, spending time with the Lord through devotionals and bible readings, and also just going to bed earlier! (I will still be working on blog posts later at night, and using Facebook for blogging groups later at night if needed. But all of my other apps and websites like Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat will be daytime and evening only until Easter!) I am making an exception to this fast during the days that I will be traveling for Spring Break next month- as I know my schedule will be different during that time! Are any of you participating in Lent this year?
  • About yesterday's post: In yesterday's blog post, I had the opportunity to review an app that helps with organization for online dating. If you use dating apps, then definitely check out the post! I do want to share though that despite having some interesting adventures with both Tinder and Bumble at different points in this school year, I have decided not to pursue dating any further until graduation. My life is too crazy right now- before I factor someone else into my equation, I need to be figuring out my post-grad plans, finishing school on a strong note, and also taking time just for enjoying the last couple months of college! I might get back on Bumble after graduation (definitely prefer this to Tinder!), but we will see. God has given me lots of peace in having the next few months as a single girl, and I'm ready to enjoy that!
  • New music: I am OBSESSED with this new song by Mike Posner! Do y'all remember him? He had a big hit during the summer between my sophomore and junior years of high school some years back called Cooler Than Me. (That song will forever make me think of my high school friend Tim- he was the first of my friends to get a license and car, and that whole summer we would listen to Cooler Than Me on trips in Tim's car to the beach! Haha.) Anyways, this song seems to be a totally different sound for Mike Posner, but I love love love it! I wish this song didn't drop an F bomb in it, as I prefer clean music generally. But other then that I can't stop listening!

Purchases:
  • I had a very stressful Monday this week, and after getting out of a long afternoon meeting I did a little bit of online shopping! I ordered this top and I can't wait for it to come in so that I can style it on the blog- I'll also be bringing it to Florida next month!
  • You might have seen on my Instagram account last week that I had the chance to test out some products from one of my favorite affordable cosmetic lines, Essence! I was sent so many wonderful goodies that I haven't had a chance to try everything yet, but so far a couple of my favorite items are this liquid lipstick and this concealer stick. Two new favorite Essence products that I will probably repurchase! (And under $10 for both!)
  • The tassel necklace featured in the photo in this post can be found here- isn't it fun?!

I hope that y'all are having wonderful weeks so far! Mine has been very busy, and today I have a lot of homework to do before night class, but here's to a hopefully productive day!

Ramblings
  • Blog friends turned real-life friends: I spent this past weekend visiting my dear friend D- the lovely lady behind the blog Seersucker Sass! (Also shown in the picture above!) In addition to both being co-admins of the Millennial Blogger Network, we have been following each other's blog's for quite some time. When I finally realized that D lived in eastern and not western Tennessee, which isn't actually that far of a drive from Charlotte, I knew that I had to plan a visit to meet her! We had the most wonderful weekend. She and her boyfriend (and their sweet pets!) were the greatest hosts, and we all fell asleep early on Saturday night because we were tired from all of the sightseeing! Something that really surprised me about our weekend is how little we actually talked about blogging. It definitely came up over the few days we were together, but I loved how we have been able to build a completely normal friendship that just happened to be started through the online world!
  • Last semester is on: I am halfway through my first week of classes for my last semester of college! It is already more intense than I thought it would be. I have the most interesting schedule this semester- I have three night classes each week, and 8 a.m.'s two days a week. My afternoons leave me opportunities for work and lots of time to do homework. I'm hoping to really utilize my afternoons well for productivity so that I can stay on top of all of my work!
  • Spotify Premium: A couple of weeks ago I finally made the splurge and bought a Spotify Premium subscription. I have been using Spotify daily for my music streaming needs since my freshman year of college, and I thought that it might be nice to listen ad-free. I love it way more than I thought I would! Definitely worth the $5 a month (the student price!). With premium you can also download playlists onto your phone to listen to them data-free, such as in the car... however, my phone is too old and too full on storage to currently utilize this feature, ha! Do any of you use Spotify Premium?

Purchases:
  • My weekend trip to Tennessee brought the chance to add two more mugs from the Starbucks You Are Here collection to my growing display of their fun mugs!! I am absolutely obsessed with this way of documenting my travels. :-) Check out this fun blog here which lists all of the locations that are featured in the You Are Here collection!
  • I swear... between my Starbucks mugs and more, glassware of all types is my new favorite thing to collect! So excited to now own these beauties as well!
  • I featured this in one of my outfit posts from last week, but I am finally the owner of a Kate Spade watch! I have been lusting over these from afar for many years now, and am so happy to finally have one of my own- such timeless pieces! (Mine is available here!)

Happy Wednesday, y'all! We have made it to the middle of the week! Stay tuned because I am so excited about the outfit posts that I'll be sharing on Friday and next Monday.

Ramblings:

  • Credit Card Decisions: Something on my Winter Break to-do list was to start applications for my first credit card- and I'm feeling a little overwhelmed! First, I have to say that I am thankful for the fact that one of my parents' rules with me has always been to let financial things come in "steps." Unlike some of my friends, they never let me open a debit card in high school, and said that was a privilege to come when I was living on my own in college. Similarly with a credit card, they said that I had college to manage using a debit card wisely, and could get a credit card near the end of school. Looking back on it, I think that both of these things were excellent on their part- everything in good time! But now that the time has come for a credit card, I have no idea what to apply for! The one that I have been looking most closely at is the Discover IT card with cash back rewards (it also has no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees apparently!), but I haven't made any decisions yet. How was applying for your first credit card? What card(s) do you love and trust?
  • Boston at Christmas: Last Thursday, my dad and I took a day trip to see one of our favorite cities all decked out for the holiday season! I wrote a recap of our day in the city and shared the blog post on Saturday- check it out if you haven't yet!
  • High school was a long time ago: On Saturday night, I went out for drinks with a few of my friends from high school. Few social events that I've ever participated in have ever made me feel so old!! Since when did I become such an "adult" that I can get alcoholic beverages with the same people that I used to eat lunch in the cafeteria with?! Haha. I haven't had a chance to do too many social things since I've been home this past week, so this was a really nice treat to catch up with a few people! It's always fun to learn what everyone is up to in college, and now also to discuss what future plans are for after graduation in the spring!
  • This song: has been stuck in my head all week. :-) The irony about this song is that a friend of mine from college loved this band long before they were being played on the airwaves, and always used to tell me about them and how great their music was. Now one of their songs has gone mainstream, and I see why she has been obsessed for so long- ha!

Purchases:
  • I don't do a lot of my shopping in Maine anymore- the quality of our mall (yes- mall, not malls. #MaineProbs) and other stores just isn't the same as Charlotte, and I've also gotten more into online shopping this year since I'm obsessed with Ebates (more on that at the bottom of this post! But I did manage to do some shopping when I was in Boston last week and also have found a couple goodies since I've been home.
  • I found the most gorgeous strappy pumps on incredible sale here in Maine this week! They are from one of my favorite shoe companies. (They are sold out online, but these are similar!) These will carry me through things in the upcoming semester like chapter meetings or presentations, and post-graduation I know I'll get lots of use out of them in my future job!
  • I picked up the cutest new poncho sweater at this favorite store of mine while in Boston last week! Who else is totally obsessed with ponchos for this season?
  • Last year- one of my favorite Christmas gifts was getting this fun photo-a-day calendar for 2015. It became such a hit among my college friends that I would give away the funniest pages to all of my friends on campus! I was going to buy the same calendar again for 2016, but then I found this one (based off of another favorite website of mine). I think that this photo-a-day calendar will be just as great as the one I had last year!

As I mentioned above, I am loving this website called Ebates which assists with online shopping! It's so simple to use- you download a toolbar extension for whichever internet browser that you use on your computer, and then whenever you're making an online purchases from your favorite retailer, you just begin the shopping trip through Ebates. They then credit you a few days later with cash back on your purchase!! The cash back percentages for each store can range from 1-10%, depending on which stores are currently featured. I used Ebates for my Cyber Monday shopping, and made over $25 this year just from those purchases alone!
I'm not being sponsored to talk about Ebates at all- just wanted y'all to know about this amazing website, especially with the after Christmas sales coming right up. You can sign up for it here! :-)

Merry Christmas week to all of you! Thanks for reading!

I'm Blue (Da Ba Dee Da Ba Daa).

Dress: The Red Dress Boutique {Similar version for same price here [and it has scallops!]} // Shoes: Jessica Simpson {On sale!} // Sunglasses: H&M // Purse: Michael Kors // Necklace: J. Crew Factory {A closet staple!} // Bracelets: c/o Jet Chic Arm Candy // Ring: HJ Greek // Lips: Lips: Essence XXXL Shine Lip Gloss in Pretty in Hibiscus

Today I'm sharing the second part of the photo-shoot that some old friends of mine did with me in Portland, Maine a couple of weeks ago! (Be sure to check out the first part which I shared last Monday if you haven't yet!) I am so excited to finally be styling this beautiful blue dress on the blog. Blue dresses have truly been my jam lately. Blue has always been my favorite color, ever since I was a little girl! The exact shades that I've loved have varied... I used to love baby blue, my bedroom at home in Maine is sky blue back from a phase in elementary school when that was my favorite shade, and for several years now my all-time favorite shade has been Tiffany Blue. But this summer I seem to have really been drifting towards this bright, royal blue shade! (Check out another recent blog post of mine where I wore another dress in this color here!)

This simple short-sleeved shift dress is from one of my favorite online retailers, The Red Dress Boutique. They're a great go-to for on-trend items, and their sales and clearance section of the website can be truly on point! If I'm ever near their store location in Georgia, I know I'll have to pay them a visit.

I love simple solid colored dresses like this one because they can be worn so many ways! I had to buy a dress in this color as one of my dresses for the ADPi side of sorority recruitment this year, but of course I couldn't wait to figure out other styling options. I knew that it would be the perfect chance to break out my new Jessica Simpson floral pumps that I had been dying to wear! I bought them right before my trip to France, but they had sadly been sitting in their shoe box in my room for most of the summer. These are such fun statement shoes, and I think that every girl needs a few pairs of fun statement heels in her closet!

Lastly, who now has the song I'm Blue stuck in their head thanks to my post title?! ;-) I thought of the title for this blog post at work a few nights ago when it got pretty slow during a break between customers.  Immediately after thinking of it, I scolded myself for not deciding to start naming blog posts after early 2000s songs like three years ago... which by the way is when I started this blog! My third blogiversary is in just a few weeks now- crazy!

You're welcome in advance for the video below- and some similar outfit pieces are linked further down!
